The Government of Dominica has signed a contract for works to begin repairing edge failures on the Nicholas Liverpool and EO Leblanc highways.
The signing ceremony took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Finance on Friday.
“Today marks a significant day in our continued efforts to build back stronger,” Minister for Public Works Fidel Grant said. “We are here for this contract signing ceremony where we will undertake road repair and road rehabilitation at six locations.”
According to him, a total of seven interventions cost $5,809,362.13.
“Dominicans, the opposition elements do not like us to mention the words Hurricane Maria and Tropical Storm Erika,” he argued. “They want us to remain quiet about the destruction of our public infrastructure which had gone on over the last five to ten years.”
Moreover, Grant indicated that these severe weather conditions have never been experienced before,” but seven years later we continue to undertake restoration and repair work to our road network which has become vulnerable to these adverse climate conditions.”
He urged the contractors on the EO Leblanc Highway as well as the Nicholas Liverpool Highway to prioritize the safety of their workers’ and also road users.
“Please ensure that your equipment is packed properly when not in use and signage is placed for road users both in the day and in the night,” Grant urged.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Roosevelt said his government started saving money every month during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We established a vulnerability risk reduction fund and as difficult as things are globally including Dominica, we have since 2022 saved half a million dollars every month into that fund and that is where we are taking this money now to do this,” he revealed.
He said there will be many other interventions as the weeks go, including water crossings.
“We are going to systematically remove the drums you are seeing along the roads in Dominica, we are going to systematically eliminate them,” he revealed. “We are waiting for proposals from the red gully, because there is some excavation that has to be done and also this major retaining wall in Belles…”
Skerrit added, “We are waiting for some proposals from the Ministry of Public Works before we give consideration to a final approach to this.”
Twenty Two years in office and the averange Dominican is worst off than they were when you took office,,,
Doe come trying to make people believe 2 extreme weather fronts cause Ross to be gone to Barbados, Kubuli to be bottled in St Lucia, the importation of water from St Kitts and most importantly there is no Agricultural sector on an island that is arguably the most Fertile and unspoiled in the region ,,
Garcan you are that failed experiment so time to let Dominicans manage their affairs the right way,,,
By the way don’t your hold a French passport how come no body not filing a grievance against a Foreigner managing Dominica’s Affairs,,,
Enter the applause button here, DNO!!!
With whom were these contracts signed.?
A contract needs at least two(2) parties present at the signing . Who was the other party( Contractor).
“Dominicans, the opposition elements do not like us to mention the words Hurricane Maria and Tropical Storm Erika,” he argued. “They want us to remain quiet about the destruction of our public infrastructure which had gone on over the last five to ten years.”
Says who? I use those two major storms as benchmarks for the nonsense they have done. It took them almost 7 years AFTER Erica in 2015 to finally fix the layou bridge. I LOVE to mention that. After Maria, Dominica had the chance to be propelled into the future as we received international aid from all over. They refused to provide the exact figures of cash and kind donations we received. Instead they stole the money (10 million US) from the Kalinago people and said it was for nation building. 7 years after Hurricane Maria in 2017 children from Goodwill Secondary STILLL have to be housed in Grammar School. Only last year, or was it this year? they decide to let those chinese build it back. Why not a local construction firm?
Fidel went China come back pushing the belt and road initiative. he must have eaten some sweet and sour dog out there. these two jack as is sold thier country and people for a few pieces of silver. when it’s all said and done is either the people hang yall or you go hang yall selves. DNO Thomas hanged himself and it is in Bible. all Christians read.
sadam, ghadafi, Hitler, and the likes we know what was thier fate.
water controll is paramount ,
therfore one should build the left n right curb first,
lift it up ore bring it down water controll.
not the center first😵
Is a general election imminent? There is a flurry of activities to complete promises and basic needs of the country that have been neglected for eons. This the modus operandi of this snake-oil regime.
What reasons do the eligible electors have to re-election such a n underperforming administration? Many of the roads are death traps and suffering from pothole disease. The economy is in ICU on death bed. Public infrastructure (water, electricity, ports, public buildings) are in a decrepit state.
Why is the country ailing so much? Roosevelt is out of his depth. Just like you can’t plant cassava and expect tomatoes, you can’t have a morning fabricator as leader and expect prosperity.
i’m not impressed Fidel.
there is no opposition in parliament yet you must mention them to try to throw people off your failure in de road network.
You can continue to mention Erika to prove you and Skerrit dlp track record of achievement and accomplishment.
5 million dollars is not enough to fix repairs existing since Erika.
every beginning of tourist season and WCMF all you spending a couple million on de road saying is repairs from Erika and Maria…….like de repairs just can’t done
Skerrit…………I don’t trust you and ANY fund program.
money will disappear like de airport account money……..WHO WILL EVER FORGET DAT.
and i thought all u said all u stop dat fund because it was stretching people little pocket too far where dat money come from?
buy a vote strategy…..election in de air.
Ask that little sucker, that Roosevelt puppet what has he done for the Village of Wesley lately, and how he if in a right mind if he is not mentally insane, have the courage to sit back and allow Roosevelt the opportunity to destroy our historic village?
Ask him if he’s not ashamed to know that Roosevelt has given place of his grandparents and parents allowing them to walk on and disrespect our people and treat them worst than the dogs eat!
When Roosevelt drop him like an old used old shoe for another puppet, the people of Wesley he deceived might be the ones to be his rescue!
Money especially when illegally ill-gained doesn’t last forever.
When we see people in government born poor from the country building and buying large properties in the city on a government salary we know something is wrong!
I doh even speculating eh!
If St. Hillier was dishonest like boss he might DA prime minister: Fidel if you doh know who is St. Hillier asked Beney, I know but I doh talking eh!
Hahaha
This begs the question, what’s to be done about the Imperial Highway at Antrim?
We’re looking at something far more serious than edge failure. Moreover, the state of affairs was not brought about by storms or hurricanes. It represents one of the worst civil engineering blunders in the history of the Caribbean.
Amen, but that is not their concern. They are more concerned with washing money in state projects that are not of absolute necessity. Skerrit is the worst political blunder in the history of the Caribbean.
Dominica richest men to date…..
