St. Mary’s Academy triumphs in Rotary Club literacy competition

An-Suani Prosper and Kaelan Matthew from St. Mary’s Academy emerged as the champions of the Rotary Club of Dominica’s 10th Annual National Secondary Schools Literacy Quiz Competition, which took place on March 28, 2025. A press release from the club stated that the event was held under the theme “Building Strong Communities Through Literacy.” Achieving second place were Faith Jno Finn and Jonella Carbon from Castle Bruce Secondary School, while Arrianna Mathurin and Shaina Bartley from St. Martin Secondary School secured third place.

Additional schools that participated in the competition included Orion Academy, Northeast Comprehensive School, and Wesley High School.

According to the release, the winning team received laptops, generously sponsored by the Rotary Club of Central Tortola, while the second-place team also received laptops. The third-place winners were awarded tablets and cellphones, thanks to donations from DIGICEL. In celebration of the competition’s 10th anniversary, all other participants were given tablets as well. Theme cups were distributed to all participants by Finance Focus, and trophies for the top three placements were donated by Central Cooperative Credit Union.

The Rotary Club of Dominica expressed sincere gratitude to all its sponsors, including the Rotary Club of Central Tortola, National Cooperative Credit Union, National Bank of Dominica, Insurance Company of the West Indies, DIGICEL, Central Cooperative Credit Union, Paxum Bank, and Finance Focus, for their contributions to the prizes and the overall success of the event.

Additionally, the Rotary Club of Dominica thanked the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence, along with principals, teachers, parents, and other collaborators, for their unwavering support of the Annual National Secondary Schools Literacy Quiz Competition, which has played a vital role in its continued growth and success. The organization expressed appreciation to everyone involved.

    Please make the corrections! The Castle Bruce Secondary was represented by two bright stars, Jonella Carbon and Faith Jno Finn. Don’t break my heart!
