Stardom Calypso Tent, one of Dominica’s celebrated Carnival institutions, opens its 2026 season tonight at the Factory on Valley Road. The event begins promptly at 8:30 p.m. with tickets priced at $40 for general admission and $50 for VIP seating.

Peter Letang, leader of the Swing Stars Band and organizer of the tent, underscored the significance of the opening night.

“The opening of the biggest tent. The opening of the tent that houses nine of the last eleven monarchs. The reigning monarch. The tent that has five of the last seven world monarchs. Tonight it’s all about Stardom Tent,” he declared, urging patrons to “come warm up yourself with Calypso and more Calypso” ahead of the quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday.

Founded decades ago, the Stardom Calypso Tent has become a cornerstone of Mas Domnik, offering a platform for both veteran performers and emerging talents. It is widely regarded as a training ground for calypsonians preparing for the national Calypso Monarch competition, and its shows are a highlight of the Carnival season. Over the years, Stardom has hosted some of Dominica’s top calypsonians, including Scrunter, Hunter, Observer, Daddy Chess, Checker, and Intruder, while also nurturing new voices to sustain the art form.

Traditionally staged at venues such as the Anchorage Hotel and The Strip in Lalay Coco, the tent has this year moved to The Factory on Valley Road. It continues to draw large audiences eager to experience calypso’s lyrical wit, social commentary, and vibrant performances. Beyond entertainment, Stardom has honored contributors to the tradition, including figures like Marcel Cruickshank,  its drummer and band member for many years.

Letang stressed that tonight’s opening promises to set the tone for the season.
