Looking Forward to a Vibrant Year in Theatre
The Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. anticipates a productive new year with increased appreciation for the performing
arts, especially theatre. The Foundation expresses its gratitude to the patrons, cast, technical crew, the private sector sponsors and La Cour Des Arts De La Dominique Inc. who contributed to the successful restaging of Alwin Bully’s first full-length theatrical production, “STREAK,” in celebration of its 50th anniversary. This achievement is notable considering the various challenges faced, such as securing a suitable venue and ensuring adequate technical amenities including seating, lighting, and sound.
Commitment to Youth and Theatre Development
Recognizing the significance of theatre in the development of the youth, the Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. is dedicated to creating opportunities for Dominicans to engage in theatrical productions. The Foundation sees theatre as a vital tool for personal and national growth.
Plans for 2026
In 2026, the Foundation intends to present two major theatrical productions. One of these will continue the observance of the 50th anniversary of a series of Alwin Bully’s plays. “The Ruler,” an adaptation of the novel “Ruler in Hiroona” by Vincentian G.C.H. Thomas, is planned for presentation during the 48th independence celebrations.
This play was originally produced by the People’s Action Theatre in 1976 and enjoyed packed audiences in Dominica and other Caribbean islands.
The second production scheduled for 2026 is “McBee” by Alwin Bully, a critically acclaimed theatrical work that captivated audiences in Jamaica. Notably, “McBee” has never been staged in Dominica, and the Foundation is excited to bring this masterpiece to local audiences. Persons interested in being part of both productions can contact the Alwin Bully Foundation Inc
Supporting Facilities and Legacy
The Foundation hopes that the Arawak House of Culture will be available to host these two significant productions in 2026. Through these initiatives, the Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. continues to honour the legacy of the late Alwin Bully and strives to revitalize the theatrical movement in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The Foundation firmly believes that increased youth engagement in theatre and other performing arts can be instrumental in addressing major challenges such as crime, violence, and unemployment that affect the nation.
Wishes for the New Year
The Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. wishes everyone a prosperous new year and expresses high hopes for the continued growth and success of the theatre movement.
Mr. Severin McKenzie
Chairman, Alwin Bully Foundation Inc.
