STATEMENT: DOMLEC re March 11 outage

Daryl Dalrymple- Manager, ET&D DOMLEC

With regard to the outage that occurred on the 11th of March 2026, the following are the facts that surround this event. As many may know, we are now preparing to interface the geothermal plant with DOMLEC’s existing system. To do so, we were preparing to have some works done at the Fond Colé plant, and while that was being done, a fault occurred on the system that resulted in the wide area network outage that we had.

This had absolutely nothing to do with the geothermal plant, but it’s a fault that occurred on DOMLEC’s system that resulted in the generators that we had on the system tripping off. So we just want the public to know that DOMLEC, right now, we are really preparing to get all the geothermal energy onto the network, and we will continue to do what we have to do to ensure that the geothermal plant is successfully commissioned and tied into our network.

But just to assure the public that this outage was not due to the geothermal plant, but a fault that occurred while we were reconfiguring the network to accommodate work at the Fond Colé power station, to accommodate the power that will be supplied to DOMLEC from the geothermal plant.

Okay, the duration of the outage was such that we had almost all of our generators at Fond Colé off because that was necessary to do the work at the Fond Colé power plant. Hence, it took some time to restore our customers back onto the network because we had all those units off and we had to bring them back on. We had some challenges with that too while we were restoring the system, and it was because of some of our generators that we could not bring on as quick as we wanted to.

But nevertheless, we did all that we could to ensure that all of our customers were restored in a timely manner.

    Totally agree with V Boyce.
Not only was there no apology, but the explanation almost took on an arrogant tenor. Unfortunate!
Sensitive Public relations should always be the gold standard in the service industry.
I am sure DOMLEC is using its honest and best due diligence in the matter, but the company must project a customer-friendly attitude at all times, even when it is not at fault.
    Other companies, please take note.

Thanks for letting the public know. however, I did not see any apologies going out to the public
Domlec should always apologise whenever there is a fault that is regardless to the cause of the outage. we the customers are paying a lot of money towards our bill not mentioning the amount of food from our fridge and fridge freezers that had to be thrown out, the least you can do was to offer an apology to us the customers.

I’m afraid most of us in the Mahaut community did notice as the lights went off at about 8PM.

It’s glad to know that this time around the management did not accuse the innocent manicou of mischief.

DOMLEC and DOWASCO are like Siamese twins. These two essential services have been badly mismanaged for eons. Really hope the geothermal plant will bring some much needed relief but I have my misgivings. Experience has taught me not to put any confidence in anything originated under Roosevelt’s misguidance. However, let us hope for the best.
