STATEMENT: Update on the safety of Dominican students in Jamaica and Cuba

The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence advises that officials have been in contact with Dominican students in Jamaica from Thursday, October 23rd, in light of the impending passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Students have reported that they are making the necessary preparations, are in safe housing and that those on campus remain safe and have adequate supplies.

The Ministry is in contact with members of the Students’ Association, and arrangements are underway to address the needs identified in the students’ assessment report. The Ministry is also in contact with the Dominican embassy in Cuba. We have been assured that the authorities in Cuba are taking every possible measure to safeguard students. A special protection protocol is in place for foreign students and is being implemented. Our students in Cuba have also begun their own preparations ahead of possible hurricane impacts.

The Government of Dominica will continue to monitor the situation closely and maintain communication with our students and the relevant authorities to ensure their safety and well-being.

Just got confirmation that the Dominican students are stranded on campus in Jamaica made to fend for themselves. Roosevelt and his posse of uncaring hoarders fully deserve the collective ridicule and scorn of the entire nation. Compare and contrast this as ALL Nutrition and Nevis I an students studying in Jamaica are now safely at home. Those from Antigua and Barbuda are safely secured in the world renowned Pegasus Hotel.

Roosevelt has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars possibly millions flying to the most remote areas around the world returning home with empty hands. But this ultra-selfish bunch of nincompoops refused to charter a flight to bring the young students home to safety. Shame on these heartless bandits.

The Roosevelt led lame-duck government is an ever danger to the lives of Dominicans at home and abroad. Look at the difference here.

The government of St. Kitts-Nevis has evacuated their students from Jamaica. That of Antigua-Barbuda has ensured that all their students in Jamaica are safely and securely accommodated in a reputable hotel. What do we get from the retarded DLP administration unverified words of comfort. Action is always better than words.

The statements offered by the do-nothing regime in Dominica are solely intended to deceive the Dominican public into thinking that they are doing their best to protect the students from all harm and danger. Nothing can be further from the truth. Truth be told they have done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The students in Cuba and Jamaica are on their own. May the mercy of God protect them from the ravages of Melissa.

You can add, Grenada chartered a plane to bring their students home to ensure their safety.

On the subject of student safety, are we still awaiting the engineer’s report on the safety of structures at the DGS?
