The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) is strongly advising the public to cease all illegal waste disposal activities.
We acknowledge that there are temporary disruptions to the collection schedule, but we are actively working to resolve these issues and will have the situation under control shortly.
We are asking for your patience and cooperation during this period. It is crucial to be health-conscious and understand the significant risks associated with illegal dumping.
STOP the illegal dumping immediately. Improper disposal creates public health hazards.
Practice Source Separation: Always sort your waste at the source (your home or business). Separating waste streams helps manage volume and reduces the attractiveness of refuse to vectors.
Prevent Vector Infestation: By failing to properly contain and manage unsorted waste, you are creating an environment for rodents, rats, maggots, and scavenging animals to multiply and spread refuse, posing a severe threat to public sanitation and health.
Let me congratulate and thank Mr.Sir. Ibo France for a positive comment.
This has been happening for far too long now. We cannot call ourselves the Nature Island and allow this madness.
From what I know, there is a Litter Act and Litter Wardens. It’s high time to make examples of some of those who insist on dumping garbage all over the place. This is not only unsightly, but unhealthy.
Come on Dominica, we can do much better than that!
Agreed!
FINALLY!!! DSWMC has admitted it has challenges in its collection schedule. Nonetheless, it continues to spew VAGUE statements. How short/ long is shortly? That said, I fully endorse the contents of the last 3 paragraphs.
A marked difference from your last statement re not collecting the garbage and the police to monitor those who are putting the garbage outside the ” cubicle “.
Moreover, DSWMC must not only issue these statements in the press ; they must embark on an announced schedule – in advance- to ALL the communities and engage citizens on proper disposal methods since it appears we have a serious attitudinal issue. This should be done repeatedly until the population uses the appropriate method. Muscle memory will kick in.
This is not good. It is the civic duty of every citizen to take pride in keeping the environment in pristine condition. One of these things is the proper disposal of household and all other garbage.
A cursory glance at Roseau and around Dominica, especially vacant lots and some abandoned buildings, give the impression that Dominicans have little or no love of country. Littering seems legal.
We can do better and MUST do better in the disposal of our waste. If each one would practise the appropriate ways of garbage disposal what an aesthetically appealing place Dominica will be.
Good effort, Solid Waste! Keep working on all fronts.
Do not pollute the commonwealth!
