Attorney Tiyani Behanzin has pledged to respect the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), respond to its philosophy as well as its principle, “and respect whoever the party decides to lead them.”
Behanzin, who is the son of the late Roosevelt Bernard “ Rosie” Douglas made the remark while addressing DLP supporters during the party’s Delegates Conference held in Vieille Case on Sunday.
In the past, Behanzin has spoken against the DLP under the Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration.
In an article published in The Sun Newspaper on October 15, 2020, Behanzin raised concerns that there is almost no trace of his father, no evidence that Dominica’s fifth Prime Minister, ‘Rosie Douglas’ ever lived.
He then proposed sweeping reforms to Dominica’s political system that would be a permanent and lasting legacy to the memory of his father.
However, Behanzin sent many people into shock yesterday when he showed up as a guest speaker at the DLP Delegates Conference.
“I give you my pledge that I will respond to the philosophy of the party, the principle of the party, and respect whoever the party decides to lead them,” he said.
Behanzin told Labourites that he had decided to return home and encouraged others who had left the DLP to do the same.
He argued that the petty machination of the opposition is unnecessary, “because we face general challenges, regional challenges, global challenges, geopolitical realities so we must find leaders to deliver to our people.”
Behanzin stated that he scanned the country and he saw, “a bunch of useless undisciplined individuals” who tried to convince him, an intelligent man, “that I was looking at substance.”
He believes that the key areas that focus should be placed on are political education, addressing local, regional, and international geopolitical realities, and economic prosperity for all.
“Labour is about feeding everyone and not leaving anyone behind,” he noted.
He continued, “We need an opportunity for rehabilitation, rejuvenation. Return all the Labourites who have left the camp.”

Lawyers, doctors and other professionals in private practice starve in Dominica, all due to a small population.
