Education Minister Octavia Alfred believes that the success of educational reform and technological progress is fundamentally reliant on the dedication of teachers.
Her statement came following World Teachers Day, celebrated on October 3.
“It reminds us that no reform, no innovation, no progress in education can succeed without the heart, the wisdom, and dedication of teachers,” she said. “Around the world, education systems are evolving at a pace we have never before experienced.”
She continued, “The rise of digital learning, the demands for new skills, the pressing social and environmental challenges of our time, all require that education be more adaptive, more inclusive, and more transformative. “
Furthermore, she noted that, “no matter how ambitious the policies or how modern the infrastructure, the true agents of change remain the teachers who stand in the front of our classrooms every day.”
“You are the ones who turn policy into practice, who transform curriculum into life experiences and who shape students not only into workers for tomorrow, but into citizens for today,” Alfred noted.
Furthermore, she stated that the engine of transformation is not simply policy, curriculum, or infrastructure.
“It is you, our teachers. You are the ones who ignite curiosity, nurture character, and open doors of opportunity for every child,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, Alfred said teachers around the world are being asked to do more than ever before.
Namely, adapting to new technologies, meeting diverse learning needs, addressing social issues, and often doing so with limited resources.
“Despite these challenges, you continue to show resilience, creativity, and a deep sense of duty,” Alfred noted. “You stand as role models of commitment and sacrifice…”
She went on to add that we are living in an age of rapid digital transformation, yet made the distinction between technology and human resonance.
“Technology is reshaping the way we teach, learn, and communicate. But while computers can deliver information, only teachers can inspire understanding,” Alfred explained.
While artificial intelligence can process data, she believes that only teachers can instill values, empathy, and resilience.
“The transformation we seek in education begins not in machines, but in the human touch of the classroom, your voice, your example, your guidance,” she indicated.
Alfred said her ministry remains committed to strengthening the teaching process and to supporting teachers in this noble task.
“Our vision for education reform is not complete without investment in teacher training, professional development and fair recognition,” she noted.
so why dont you all pay them more? Why do you all take so long to appoint them to permanent positions? Why dont you all ensure that schools are well equipped to allow the teachers jobs to be more thorough? You all find money to do all kinds of nonsense that is never done properly. Minister of education as a former teacher yourself. dont talk rubbish for people just to attempt to remain relevant. What you said is the absolute obvious. but yet we watch you all operate in the opposite direction.
