Thea Lafond-Gadson

Thea Lafond-Gadson is gearing up to once again represent the Commonwealth of Dominica at the forthcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from March 1 to March 3, 2024. She will compete in the Women’s Triple Jump.

Presently, Thea holds the second spot in the global rankings, boasting a jump of 14.60m.

She earned her ticket to the Championships with a remarkable leap of 14.90m at last year’s World Athletics Outdoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The athlete aspires to clinch a medal and surpass her previous fourth-place finish at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, held two years ago.

Dominica’s sole World Athletics Championship medal dates back to 1995 when Jerome Romain seized bronze in the Men’s Triple Jump event, achieving a noteworthy jump of 17.59m in Göteborg, Sweden.

Set to compete on Sunday, March 3rd, at 6:18 am local time, Thea will face off against fifteen other contenders in her event category.

Mr. Aaron Gadson, a certified senior coach recognized by World Athletics will provide guidance and managerial support throughout the Championships. The duo embarked on their journey to Glasgow on Sunday, February 25, intending to undergo an acclimatization regimen ahead of the main event.

Interested parties can stay tuned to the Dominica Amateur Athletics Association’s Facebook page and the official World Athletics website for updates on the Championships.

“The Executive of the Dominica Amateur Athletics Associaton, the Dominica Olympic Committee, and its Affiliates would like to wish Mrs. Thea Lafond-Gadson all the best on her quest to a podium finish at the 2024 World Indoor Championships,” stated the Dominica Amateur Athletics Associaton, via a press release.

This will be Dominica’ s best chance to win another medal at that level. Being an Olympic year, the Championship performance athletes are training through Indoors. Thea definitely has the potential to be on a podium, but she has to perform at the Championship meets when it matters. Historically it hasn’t happened yet. A big jump at an early meet with minimal competition is great for temp rankings, she has to bring out those jumps when it really matters, at the Championships. This is our best chance. Let’s go Thea!
