‘There is no room for corrupt police officers’ – Claude Weekes

“There is no room for corrupt police officers.” Those were the words of  Former Assistant Superintendent of Police, Claude Weekes while speaking on DBS Radio Discoveries Program recently.

According to him, systems must be in place to ensure that the police force is not compromised.

“Telling the public to do X, Y, and Z, or you ought not to do it [what] you are doing, there is no room for corrupt police officers,” he said. “In any police force, of course, there will be because we are sinful by nature and practice and will always seek to circumvent and do things around.”

He continued, “That is critical.”

Referring to respect from the public, he believes that despite the pressure they give to police officers, the public “[expects] us to be above God.”

“Even our appearance, some guys, they are in uniform and–my God–we can do better than that,” Weekes remarked.

He believes that a good policeman should possess qualities such as wisdom, “so we can tie that into decision-making.”

“You must have the strength and the patience, and that is another important attribute,” Weekes stated. “Patience, understanding, leadership.”

He continued, “I heard of new high-ranking promotions, leadership that has to be exercised. You carry the rank, but you must be wise, you must be courageous, you have to understand the systems, have a good handle on public administration, know how the system works, read the constitution.”

Mr Weekes, i am still disappointed that you have been so quiet after retirement. You do know as i do, that the CDPF is largely a compromised and broken police force brought about by dirty and nasty politics. Just look at top leadership of the force, and as macho as any human being is, it must him or her to cringe.
Any police force in CARICOM or the WORLD that is manipulative enough to do whatever corrupt politicians who STEAL, LIE and CHEAT from the people, want to be done, without even questioning the politician, should be condemned for dereliction of duty to the public.
CDPF is not a police force. It’s a DAM police mess.

The statement ‘There is no room for corrupt police officers’ is absolutely a true requirement in any Law enforcement agency. Now why are you making innuendos and assumption, accusations and perceptions against The DPF, which most of it are not necessarily legitimate, but simply your partisan rage coupled with generalization, it’s not an honest or rational way to make an assessment. You can Bla bla ba ranting your partisan anger on this forum just like the others, no surprise it’s not helping the change you want to see and never will.

My friend,Mr.Claude Weeks the man from Les Point and a former police comrade. The biggest problem facing to police today is LEADERSHIP.The Dominican public is ALWAYS willing to assist the police, but for that to happen, the police must talk like a police, walk like a police and act like a polic ppe behave like a police..The police will never succeed without the help of the public.Instead of protecting police informants, the police are exposing them to violence, just for a $20 it’s a shame. There are much more police officers in the police force today, yet there are no beat police.Police selling weed, police selling cocaine and my parl rep send me,pure corruption, police in uniform with haversack on their back and a plastic bag in each hand.Half of the police cannot name the streets in Roseau and more that half don’t know who is who in Roseau.90% of traffic police have their ticket book bent double. And the leadership of the police force say nothing and do nothing about it..

When the leader of a country is corrupt the whole of society becomes corrupt. People take their cue from their leader.

The police officers in Dominica operate at the behest of Lying, dishonorable, untrustworthy Roosevelt. What should we expect? A leader cannot practise dishonesty and expect propriety from his apostles.

The CDPF is excellent at arresting law abiding citizens, issuing and pursuing bogus charges, beating and throwing missiles at unarmed civilians, fumbles airtight cases, and the list of failures, infamy and incompetence goes on.

The leader and the police force are undoubtedly corrupt. CORRUPTION is the arch enemy of development. No wonder Dominica is the least developed country in the OECS.

Some of them do not seem to understand that. Let me bring it to layman terms. if you are responding to a spill or a fire you must make sure your PPE(personal protective equipment) is in perfect condition and not compromised. it cannot have holes or be expired. if it is not then it can and will result in more damage and a false sense of security. you have to inspect them frequently, repair bad ones or remove and replace the ones that are no good. The police force is like the PPE. The bad ones have to be disciplined and removed from top to bottom or else our security and stability is compromised. it is already evident.

The lack of proper and adequate resources in the CDPF should be squarely blamed on the incumbent Roosevelt-led administration. The many millions from the depleted treasury that have been expended on Roosevelt and Melissa’s extravagant lifestyle should be recouped from the FAT joint bank accounts of these two shady characters and fully resource the CDPF.

But Mr Weeks as a preacher you know very well that a currupt tree cannot bring forth good fruits just as a currupt head will always look for currupt branches.
While it is very refreshing to hear that from a retired officer, unfortunately, Dominican is too deeply rooted and embedded in corruption .
Everything on island is corrupt to the point that we can even smell corruption in the very atmosphere around us.
Just imagine we are so currupt that as a former colony of Britain we now need a visa to enter the UK to the point that we are better known as the Corruptwealth of Domination than the Commonwealth of Dominica. Our wealth and budget is a corrupt budget and everything is corrupted

Opinions wow, how easy it is to sit behind a computer and write such a comment, very easy lol, is this a rational analysis of Dominica or just an out burst of irrational emotion, the latter is what it is. You know, such irrational emotion expressed does not need evidence and facts, so long.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 4 Thumb down 4
