Thirteen Dominican students earn degrees at WIU

A total of thirteen students from Dominica graduated with degrees from Western Illinois University during the Commencement Exercises held on May 10.

A press release from the university stated that among them, one earned a doctorate, four received master’s degrees, and eight attained bachelor’s degrees. These graduates were part of a larger group of over 50 Caribbean students who earned degrees at various levels.

The graduates earning their bachelor’s degrees include:

– Francine Julius-Bioco, who received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with magna cum laude honors. She is an alumna of Convent High School and Dominica State College.

– Roanne Rose Jno-Baptiste, awarded a Bachelor of Science in Speech Language and Pathology and Audiology with magna cum laude honors. She graduated from Dominica State College.

– Jade Lindsay, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with magna cum laude honors. She is a graduate of Dominica State College.

– Dinelle Dailey, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with cum laude honors. Her educational background includes Convent High School and Dominica State College.

– Jaden Harrigan, who received a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He is an alumnus of St. Mary’s Academy and Dominica State College.

– Natoya Raymond, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. She graduated from Convent High School and Dominica State College.

– Ebony Lindsay, who obtained a Bachelor of General Studies in Liberal Arts. Her previous schools include Convent High School and Dominica State College.

– Sherece Fregiste from Grand Bay, awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Finance. She is a graduate of Pierre Charles Secondary School and Dominica State College.

The four students who earned master’s degrees are:

– Anwah Tim Pascal, who completed a Master of Science in Computer Science. He previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Engineering from USTB.

– Annique Vidal, who obtained a Master of Science in Psychology. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biology from MSU Texas.

– Jane Romain, who received a Master of Education in Education Studies. Her undergraduate degree was a Bachelor of Science from UWI.

– Monique Hector-Roberts, earning a Master of Education in Educational Studies. She previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from ORIENT.

“Caribbean students made history at WIU this cycle,” said WIU President Kristi Mindrup. “The region was well represented at all degree levels and with notable individual achievements. Students from Dominica and the rest of the Caribbean have demonstrated success in and out of the classroom and have made a positive impact on the university community.”

Kerris Shillingford of Fine Grass, Marigot, earned an Ed.D in Organizational Leadership.

Additionally, the statement shared that WIU will participate in a consortium visiting Dominica on June 11, alongside several other universities.
