Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) Marva Williams revealed that planning has already begun for the staging of the 25th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) scheduled for October 24-26, 2025, while assuring the public that the “Creole” ingredient will be readily apparent.
Williams was speaking as a guest on the Creole Heartbeat Program with Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles this week.
“I don’t want us to allow people to think that our World Creole Music Festival is not thriving and flourishing, it is,” she said. “However, I am one of the advocates and one of the people who always emphasize that we have to seek to always maintain that Francophonie, that authentic creole aspect, because that is what differentiates us from all other festivals.”
She continued, “And even in the planning, yes we are very deep into the planning stage for this year and that is something that was brought up and empathized and I am quite certain that when the line-up comes up we will see that Francophonie aspect of our World Creole Music Festival.”
She added, “We will see it highlighted and whereas we want to invite other aspects which are welcomed into our World Creole Music Festival, we have to maintain our competitive advantage, which separates us from other festivals.”
Williams explained that inviting other genres of music or other personalities to the WCMF is, in itself, not a problem, but she expressed agreement with the view that unique features of the WCMF should not be lost.
At last a CEO of DDA with sense. In the first few years after the WCMF started, the essence of “creole” was present. in the recent past, it has become a music festival! wash your foot and come
Thank you Marvo for returning the WCMFto what is was created for. Creole can only be Creole!!!
Once that rotten Cabinet is approving the lineup, take what all you get!!
