
Selected honorees for the 2025 CMEx Leadership Awards, have been announced by The Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx), adding three distinguished figures from Aruba, Martinique, and Puerto Rico to what the organization describes as “an already impressive roster of visionaries whose work has elevated the Caribbean’s global profile and strengthened its communities.”
CMEx reports that new awardees include Carole Alexis, a globally recognized choreographer and artistic director from Martinique, who is also a Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters; Ronella Croes, the Chief Executive Officer of the Aruba Tourism Authority; and Clarisa Jiménez, President and CEO of the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association (PRHTA).
Other distinguished individuals recognized this year are:
– Dave Chang, Senior Vice President of Consumer Sales and Contact Centers at Carnival Cruise Line
– May-Ling Chun, Director of Tourism for St. Maarten
– Laura Davidson, CEO and Founder of LDPR
– Muryad de Bruin, Managing Director of the Curaçao Tourist Board
– Cathleen Decker, Co-founder of The Decker/Royal Agency
– Loreto Duffy-Mayers, an expert in Tourism and Sustainability from Barbados
– Monique Hamaty-Simmonds, Executive Director of Tortuga Rum Company Ltd. in the Cayman Islands
– Luce Hodge-Smith, Junior Minister of Tourism for the British Virgin Islands
– Janelle Hopkin, President and Managing Director of Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada
– Vonulrick “Von” Martin, a broadcaster, producer, and Dean at Caribbeana Communications Inc.
– Shomari Scott, Chief Business Officer at Health City Cayman Islands
– Marcus Simmonds, CEO of Tortuga International Holdings Ltd. in the Cayman Islands
According to a press release, Bevan Springer, President of CMEx, is quoted as saying, “These exceptional honorees embody the spirit of leadership, innovation and service that defines the best of the Caribbean.”
“From tourism and business to culture and community development, their impact has been profound, and we are proud to recognize their contributions at this year’s awards,” she added.
The CMEx Leadership Awards honor individuals whose contributions span sectors such as hospitality, cruise tourism, medical tourism, destination marketing, sustainable development, media, and public relations. The awards luncheon will convene tourism industry stakeholders, business leaders, media representatives, and community advocates for an afternoon of celebration, networking, and a shared dedication to a prosperous future for the Caribbean.
The event is supported by sponsors including Carnival Corporation & plc, Chukka Caribbean Adventures, and Nassau & Paradise Island Promotion Board.
Proceeds from the event will be allocated toward educational initiatives aimed at empowering Caribbean youth and professionals in the tourism industry.
