The United Kingdom has introduced a new initiative during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Samoa. This initiative, called the Time Limited Programme (TLP), will provide up to 40 Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships over a two-year period, exclusively available to talented students from Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The Commonwealth Scholarships website shared that the announcement was made by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

The primary objectives of the TLP are to:
– Enhance economic growth and trade within the Commonwealth
– Increase access to quality education and skill development opportunities
– Promote human rights, transparency, and democratic principles
– Foster the development of climate-resilient societies in at-risk regions

To achieve these goals, the program will allocate 20 scholarships in 2026 and another 20 in 2027. Applicants will be prioritized for fields such as environmental science, climate policy, international development, governance, and public health.
