Torrential rain causes major flooding in Calibishie

Residents of the North Eastern village of Calibishie were awakened in the early hours of Sunday by torrential rainfall that lasted for approximately ten hours, causing severe flooding and disruption in the area.

According to reports, the heavy downpour began around 1:00 a.m., continuing relentlessly until about 10:30 a.m. The persistent rainfall led to rising water levels, flooding homes, and blocking roads with debris. Water entered the homes of some residents, and other effects of the massive downpour included fallen trees and blocked entryways.

Despite the extent of the flooding, there have been no reports of injuries. Calibishie resident Webster Marie described the situation, noting that a landslide had occurred close to the home of one villager who lives close to the police station in the village.

“The landslide came down on one side of the house, blocked the door and he had to exit the house through the backdoor,” Marie explained. However, he said that while floodwaters entered several homes, the immediate danger has passed as waters have since receded.

Below are videos of the flooding taken earlier today by Webster Marie.
