Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has encouraged Dominicans to continue being kind, caring, and empathetic.
His call came during the 10th annual meeting of the Trafalgar/Shawford/Fond Canie Village Council recently.
“We must not lose these things as a society. We have to continue to be the kind society that we know ourselves, the friendly society that we know ourselves…”
According to him, this is what differentiates Dominica from the rest of the world.
“When people come to Dominica they tell you Dominica may have its challenges, but these are wonderful, hospitable people, peaceful people, welcoming people,” he stated.
“And you here in the Trafalgar /Fond Canie/Shawford area you are known for that and we must ensure that we take the advice and reminder of our school children that we have to be kind, we have to be caring, we have to be empathetic, we have to be truly our neighbour’s keeper as the Bible teachers us.”
Moreover, he noted that it is important that the council preoccupies themselves with how the senior citizens are living.
“Do they have water at their homes? Is their home clean? Do they have electricity? Do they need a window for their house so that they can be more comfortable in their home?” he asked.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau Valley Constituency, Dr. Irving McIntyre congratulated the new council members led by Chairperson Shadina St Jean and Deputy Chair Marvin Hector.
“I look forward to working with the young, vibrant, and energized New Council in serving the residents of our community,” he said. “I take this opportunity to thank the outgoing chairman Mr. Clifford Morancie and councilors for a job well done.”
He added, “It was a pleasure achieving so many things together.”
Dr. McIntyre also thanked the people of the communities who turned out to participate in the elections.
“Together we will continue to build our community,” he stated.
