Bouyon artist Trilla-G’s (born Gael Jno Baptiste) new single, “Congratulations”, is described as a profound channeling of a difficult life experience into a powerful message of gratitude and resilience.
“The song is inspired by the artist’s recent battle with cancer and serves as both a personal testimony and an uplifting anthem for fans everywhere,” stated a release from the Billboard-recognized artist’s team.
In an emotional message to his supporters, Trilla-G shared, “Cancer was not a word I ever imagined hearing connected to my name, especially at this stage of my life. There were moments of fear, moments of exhaustion, moments where the weight of it all felt unbearable. But through it all, I held on to my faith and made a decision that as long as I had life, I had a chance to fight.”
Diagnosed in July 2025, the release shares that his world turned upside down as he began a rigorous treatment journey to regain his health. However, the initial shock soon transformed into a source of motivation.
“It just sent me deeper into my faith, to be honest,” remarked the artist. “I was more intentional about my health, I prayed, I went further into my creativity, and that just drove me on, day after day.”
Despite the challenges of treatment, Trilla-G continued to perform throughout 2025, gracing stages at Virginia and Miami carnivals, the UberSoca Cruise, and in Aruba. The year culminated with a memorable appearance at Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival, after which he left the island the next day to resume medical care. During this difficult period, he also released his debut album, “Take Me as I Am: The Album”, just a week before his WCMF performance in what is said to be “a bold statement of perseverance and purpose.”
He revealed his quiet struggle in a recent statement:“When I showed up, it took everything in me. And when I could not, my body simply would not allow it. “
“Congratulations” was composed during this reflective and healing phase, celebrating his victory over illness. As of February 5, Trilla-G reports that he is officially cancer-free.
The track centers on gratitude, with the artist expressing thankfulness “to still be here. Grateful for life, for faith, for people who stand by you — and reminding others not to wait for the worst to happen before they appreciate the blessings around them.”
“Blending Trilla-G’s signature Bouyon energy with heartfelt emotion, “Congratulations” delivers a message that resonates far beyond any fete. It encourages listeners to celebrate life, even in times of struggle, and to find joy in simply being present. Trilla G is heading to the Carnival Season with high spirits, celebrating Dominica’s Real Mas in a profound and meaningful way,” said the release.
Joining him on the track is longtime collaborator Th3rd from the US Virgin Islands. The song was produced by Andel “Fr3EzE” Horsford and Dernel Green, with additional writing from Shane Maloone and Christon Jno Baptiste. Live guitar melodies are provided by Giovannie Green.
The official music video, released just two days after Trilla-G’s final treatment, symbolizes a new chapter—marking the end of a difficult period and the beginning of a new journey, says the release.
Shot by 365MMP with creative direction from Tridel Edwin, Anthony Nibbs, and Trilla-G himself, the video underscores the song’s message of hope and renewal.
“Congratulations” is available on all major streaming platforms, and viewers can watch the music video on Trilla-G’s YouTube channel.
