Tropical Storm Watch issued for Dominica

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the Government of Dominica as TS Bret approaches the Lesser Antilles.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.

At 5:00 pm, Bret was located about 835 miles east of the Windward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.

The storm is moving towards the west at near 18 mph.

This general motion is expected to continue for the next several days.

Forecasters predict the center of Bret is expected move across portions of the Lesser Antilles Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, and then move across the eastern Caribbean Sea on Friday.

Officials in Dominica have been urging residents to be prepared and make all necessary arrangements as the storm approaches.

“Pay close attention to the information provided by the Met Service and the Office of Disaster Management (ODM), Fitzroy Pascal of the ODM advised. “We all know the uncertainty with forecasting intensity, movement, and impact of weather systems. Staying informed is a critical part of your preparedness activity over the next few days and throughout the Hurricane Season.”
