Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been captured and flown out of Venezuela following a large-scale US military strike on Caracas, US President Donald Trump announced in a social media post. Trump said he will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. ET to provide further details.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that Maduro has been indicted in New York on drugs and weapons charges. Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told a GOP senator that Maduro will stand trial in the United States and that he anticipates no further military action.
In Caracas, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said the government does not know the whereabouts of Maduro or First Lady Cilia Flores. Rodríguez condemned the US strike, saying it had cost the lives of officials, military personnel, and civilians across the country.
China has urged its citizens to avoid traveling to Venezuela in the near future, citing security concerns. According to state media outlet Xinhua, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela advised Chinese nationals already in the country to “closely monitor the local security situation, strengthen preventative measures and emergency precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from conflict or sensitive areas.” The statement added that citizens should contact local police or the Chinese Embassy in case of emergency.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK was “not involved in any way” in the strike on Caracas. Speaking to PA Media, Starmer emphasized the importance of upholding international law and said he intends to speak directly with President Trump to establish the facts surrounding the operation. The UK Foreign Office has issued a “shelter in place” advisory for British nationals in Venezuela, warning against all travel to the country and urging those already there to prepare personal emergency plans.

Some Caribbean leaders might be praising the overthrow of the government of Venezuela by Trump and see their oil stolen in order to swell the back pockets of the oligarchs egging him on.
