General Secretary of the recently-formed political party, Team Unity Dominica (TUD), Alex Bruno, has indicated that the party is in communication with members of the incumbent DLP government as the island gets ready to vote in a snap general election called by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
In a video statement, following the announcement of the election, Bruno stated that he is not ready to call names at this point but if everything works out, current members of the government could be part of a TUD-led government.
“There are those who are with the incumbent who we are in communication with,” he revealed. “I won’t call any names at this point but if everything works as the way it should work, there could be incumbent members of the government who may be representing in the new government moving forward.”
He pointed out that some of these government members were just waiting for the right moment to jump into action to “rescue Dominica” from what he described as the “political stalemate” created by the DLP.
“So lets be careful how we categorize our brothers and sisters who are probably just awaiting or just were waiting for this right moment to jump into action and to once and for all rescue Dominica from this prolonged and overstaying stalemate of political incumbency which can end and should end with the issuing of the writ…” Bruno said.
Bruno has hinted that the TUD may contest the general election, saying the party stands ready, willing and able to enter the “fray.”
This is a reflection of earlier statement he has made that the TUD is ready to contest a general election whenever it is called.
In August, days before TUD was officially launched at Calibishie on Sunday 14th, August, 2022, he made the point very clear.
“I guarantee you that we are ready for the next election cycle with a full organization, ready to run enough seats to win the general elections as a movement,” he said back them. “We are ready to run Dominica for maybe two months time if the election calls early or a year and a half time.”
Earlier this week, Skerrit announced general election will be held in Dominica on December 6, 2022, more than two years before it is constitutionally due.
The main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and the smaller Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) have made it clear that they have nothing to do with the upcoming poll.
No election without electoral reform.

Well, if UWP and Freedom Party not contesting the election, then TUD can seize this opportunity to become the main opposition party. This looks like another win for Roosevelt Skerrit. Nothing will change, somehow DLP will win again and Dominica will continue in the downward economic spiral.
It is a pity that we cannot do anything to change the government. PM -Skerrit and President Savarin are sitting tightly on the backs of Dominicans, and we have to wait for them to die before we have new leadership.
This is a pity. Our constitution should be changed to only allow a leader a maximum of 2 terms as Prime Minister and President. This might give some incentive for change. Our leaders think that this is their job for life. So many Dominicans have migrated to Canada to flee this disastrous stewardship of DLP and Skerrit.

This rhetoric by the General Secretary of TUD dovetails into some very interesting territory. And, can it be that it was for this cause that TUD was commissioned? Is this move with the group of discards “gravitating outwards” or forward in an effort to project a new Dominica or is it a carefully pre-planned strategy? All is not lost though, if their cause is about national salvation. Those discards were part of a cabal that has been preaching the resilience gospel for the last few years. Some of them know where the proverbial bodies are buried. Resilience involves bouncing back, finding one’s voice, and fighting after one has been fired, shamed, insulted, and discarded. Let us wait to see if we will see their resilient power.
