Two Grand Bay men charged with murder of Kings Hill man

Murder-accused after court-Marvin Marlon Albert (left) and Samron Thomas (in black, sleeveless shirt)

Two young men from the community of Grand Bay have been arrested and charged for the murder of 23-year old Damien Ernest of Kings Hill.

The two, who appeared before magistrate Michael Laudat where the charge of murder was read to them, are 19-year-old Marvin Marlon Albert of Grand Coulibrie and 20-year old Samron Thomas of Montin, Grand Bay

Police reported that the body of Ernest was found at about 11 am on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 on the road close to the Boeri Lake lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

He was taken to the Casualty Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where the body was pronounced dead.

Since the charge is a capital offense and must be tried before a judge and jury, the men were not required to enter a plea. Thomas is represented by attorney-at-law, Wayne Norde while Albert is so far unrepresented.

The matter has been adjourned to September 10th, 2020.

In the meantime, both young men are on remand at the Stock Farm Prison.

Marlon and Samron ages 19 & 20. What is going on in your heads? Look at how young? Sad yes I say sadly. I do not know the circumstances but to kill Damian another young one. It hurts both ways. Young men why do you kill even with guns? Why? can’t you love one another? Sigh! Why? The gold chains, the scooter, bikes, guns, etc. u cannot go anywhere with it when you dead, dead. Why the hype? Can’t u young men respect your lives? You were born for a purpose but dying before your time. Why? Both families are hurting the deceased & the accused. Please refocus your minds. Stop being a follower of fashion u must have a bike, scooters, etc. make those things become your gods. There is only one God who gave us the breath of life. We are on a journey. Pass we passing. Do something good during your journey. Remember your loved ones before u indulge in those illegal activities. Sad. black lives matter but u young blacks killing your own.

Here’s the timetable: 1. They’ll be out on bail before this year ends, 2. You’ll hear nothing about this case until about 2025 or beyond. 3. One or both of them will walk free. The Police investigation and arrest side of it runs quick and smooth (hats off to them)….its the Judicial System that fails us. I’ve been hearing about a ‘Bail Act’ for almost 10years. I also think it is time to set aside the ‘Preliminary Inquiry’ phase in the Magistrates Court in Capital Offenses. All the ‘P.I.’ does is to establish if there is enough evidence and basis to proceed to a High Court trial. The process is just to long. Witness go away……… they get fed up……. they can’t get paid ‘time-off’ (from work)……or even get paid NOT to testify. Long and short of it, our Justice System needs an overhaul.

“He was taken to the Casualty Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where the body was pronounced dead.”

What do you mean “where the body was pronounced dead”? As opposed to what? A car? Battery? What type of body are we talking about here? I’ve seen you write lots of stupid …. on here before but that’s definitely near the top of the list. You say “where HE was pronounced dead”, NOT where “the body was”, what does that even mean???

Fix up you’re writing skills. If you’re going to run you’re own news website, at least come correct with your vocabulary & know what you’re actually talking about. I don’t know if you studied at school, went to college or university or whatever, but if you didn’t…I suggest you do so because you seriously need it

This is just so sad for the young men involved and for our country. Something has to be done about the root of the problem of young men killing each other in this place.

People at Laudat are extremely upset that this heinous crime had to happen so near the community.
A warning: Please do not come to Laudat to commit you all’s crimes.
Laudat is a small close-knit community of peaceful and gentle people.
According to Laudat’s folkloric history, in the early part of the last century there was a famous ‘gate’ at the entrance of the village where strangers were screened on entrance. We may just have to reinstate it!

So you mean we must choose between coffin or courthouse then, no alternative. Some lucky people choose a villa in Morne Daniel, also paid for by the state. Lucky them.

We don’t make guns in DA and once too often, shooting dead. Every body quote the Holy Bible when it suit them. ANY HUMAN BEING,WHOSOEVER,KILL ANOTHER HUMAN BEING,MUST BE PUT TO DEATH. When you plan to kill someone knowing that you yourself are going, you should think twice.

A whole lost generation of unemployed delinquent young men under this Labour Party 20 years in Government! Dominica’s future now looks so bleak! Where is the promise of a brighter tomorrow for the next generation? What have we built for them? no industry, no development, no legacy! Instead all we have been doing and interested in is to take, take, take! Every Dominican who supports the Labour Party is for what is in it for themselves and not what is best for Dominica! Every member of the Labour Party Government can show you what they gained or what they became under Labour, but please show me where Dominica developed and gained? A Shameful state of affairs!

These young people are frustrated but they need to pass their anger and frustration on those that put them in that hopeless situation and not on fellow young people that are in the same predicament and struggle

This passage by Eric Fromm from his book “Escape from Freedom” is relevant:

“It would seem that the amount of destructiveness to be found in individuals is proportionate to the amount to which the expansiveness of life is curtailed. By this we do not refer to individual frustrations of this or that instinctive desire but to the thwarting of the whole of life, the blockage of spontaneity of the growth and expression of man’s sensuous, emotional and intellectual capacities. Life has an inner dynamism of its own; it tends to grow, to be expressed, to be lived. It seems that if this tendency is thwarted, the energy directed towards life undergoes a process of decomposition and changes into energies directed towards destruction…The more the drive for life is thwarted, the stronger is the drive towards destruction; the more life is realised, the less is the strength of destructiveness. Destructiveness is the outcome of unlived life.”

Most profound condolences to the family of the deceased. Kudos to the police in making such quick arrest. Hope that you have the real perpetrators and that you will build an air-tight case. For taking the life of a fellow human being, your life should be forfeited also.

We should never become desensitized to murder no matter how often it happens.
