Two protesters plead not guilty to all charges brought by police

Loretta and Davidson “Pyro” Julien

Two people who were arrested last week following a clash between protesters and the police, appeared in court yesterday where they pleaded not guilty to four charges preferred against them.

Loretta Julien and Davidson “Pyro” Julien both of Newtown, were apprehended on March 4, 2021, on Bath Road, Roseau, outside police headquarters during a protest where they were demanding the release of Jawanza Stuart and Lynworth “Mystelics” Mitchell who were detained by the police for an incident involving a drone.

Following a scuffle between another protester and police officers, the pair were detained and kept in police custody overnight and later granted station bail to appear in court today.

According to the charges presented in court, Loretta is accused of beating constable Emran Joseph, a member of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force ( CDPF) whilst executing his duty, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and failure to wear a face mask or face covering in a public space.

Davidson is also accused of beating Constable Scott Ferrol, of the CDPF, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and failure to wear a face mask or face covering in a public space.

The trial is expected to commence on June 8, 2021 and disclosure is ordered on or before April 30, 2021.

Bail will continue for the Julien’s in the sum of $5,000.00.

They are represented by Attorney-at-Law Gildon Richards and Ronald Charles.

The Perpetrators were set loose with no charges, the Frivolous ones are stuck with Legal concerns. Its very imbalance vis-a-vis the Police looking to stamped their authority. In underdeveloped Countries like Da, the Police usually comes out on top. The New Town couple let Emotion get the better of them, while Epitomizing the Drum Major syndrome, of wanting to be in the forefront, of seen and heard. The Tongue always tend to put one in Hot Waters, examples are about to be made of them, and compassion or slap on the wrist, may not have a place or space for them under Colonial Laws.

DNO, what’s happening to the non-publication of comments on all but one article. It shows how much you value your ‘clientele’.

By the way, how much of an assault can the mild mannered, elderly lady mount on a young, physically imposing police officer?

They (the police) brutalized a grandmother and her son then charged them with battery on a police officer for simply trying to ward off the torrential shower of blows meted out to them.

DNO, treat your readers and commenters with some respect. At least, let them know what’s happening.
