U.S. issues a ban on St Lucia’s top resort

The U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown has issued a security alert concerning Saint Lucia, specifically prohibiting U.S. government personnel from staying at the Ladera Resort near Soufriere.

This directive was enacted following what was reported as by the U.S. State Department as an internal review of security risks associated with the location, which concluded that the resort presents potential dangers due to crime and inadequate emergency response capabilities.

Effective immediately, U.S. government employees are not allowed to stay at the resort, as the embassy assessed that crime could pose a serious risk to safety and that the facility might not respond effectively to emergencies.

On February 4, 2026, the embassy publicly released an assessment highlighting the concerns, stating that “crime may pose a serious risk to guest safety, and the resort may not be able to respond adequately.”

Although the embassy has not disclosed specific intelligence or active threat reports that prompted this decision, the restriction serves as a mandatory safety protocol for U.S. personnel. Private U.S. citizens are also advised to exercise heightened vigilance, as it is alleged by the U.S. that the safety infrastructure at Ladera Resort may not meet standard emergency response requirements.

In addition to the security alert, the U.S. Embassy  recently addressed recent statements made by the Government of Saint Lucia regarding diplomatic and educational issues. The embassy clarified that it has not issued any instructions to Saint Lucia to prevent students from studying medicine in Cuba, contradicting Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre’s assertions.

Furthermore, the embassy refuted claims that the U.S. intended to sever regional diplomatic ties, affirming that while it does not support Cuba’s medical programs, it has not directed Saint Lucia to cut regional relations.

Despite the close timing of these diplomatic clarifications and the security alert, the embassy emphasized that safety assessments for personnel remain independent of diplomatic discourse, and the overall travel status for Saint Lucia remains unchanged, with personal vigilance remaining the primary defense for travelers in the area.

The Ladera Resort is the only resort built on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sitting in-between the iconic Pitons of St Lucia.

The five-star luxury resort is reported to be the top hospitality earner on the island, bringing in USD 17.6 million in the last fiscal year. (Correction: The revenue figure quoted was eaarnings as of February, 2026.)

The embassy’s statement included the following directives:

  • Avoid the Ladera Resort.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Give your itinerary to a family member or friend.
  • Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
  • Carry a copy of your passport. Leave originals in your hotel safe.

I am waiting to hear from America’s policy director, who comments on this platform. Whenever you try to educate the individual about that madness that is going on in the White House, he comes up with this weak attack about people not being critical thinkers, and his inferiority complex about Trump doesn’t even know us. It is outright foolishness when the US has diplomatic relations with Dominica, and Paola Zampoli, one of Trump’s closest associates and the one to introduce him to his wife, is an ambassador of Dominica.

      *slow clap*
I hope my applause has granted you the validation you are seeking…

Genuinely, I didn’t realize I hurt your feelings so much. I had no intention of doing it then and I don’t intend to do it again, though I will call you out on your behavior or defend myself or my position – unless I realize my position is wrong, then I may surprise you by admitting it.

Here is a slight concession, there might be many hundreds of thousands of Americans (a mere fraction of their 350 million) who really know about D.A but most Americans also don’t know much about the world in general they dont really NEED to, including Dominica that is just common sense. My speech can be figurative and hyperbolic sometimes to make a point, sensible people and those who make the effort can understand these things.

Also how would you know if I’m a “he” or a “she” or not, guessing by your speech I would gender you a she but you might be offended…

This action by the U.S. could administer a devastating blow to the St. Lucian economy. Caribbean govern!rents must now become cognizant of the fact that America is no longer a reliable partner of these countries.

This warning was rushed and without merit in my opinion. Yes, there is crime in St. Lucia, but this has been happening for the last decade plus without any sudden upsurge. St.Lucia now, which other regional island/country is next? Stay alert!

There could be only one reason why Trump is targeting this resort. He wants to own it. This is a typical Trump tactic of twisting people’s arms when he want something from them. St. Lucia is now in the firing line. The whole region should be worried by this despot. Since he cannot get Greenland, he will target other places closer to the US to build his Trump resorts and golf courses. When will regional governments stand up to this bully.

Agreed that this from the typical Trump playbook. He even wrote a book about it, though its more like he paid someone to write a book that he put his name on.

It may not be about the resort while he is greedy enough to take it, it could be any list of things he or his administration is trying to bully St. Lucia into accepting.

Take of your tin foil hat. Trump is not the problem, the growing crime rate is. Stop looking for crutches and clean up the streets.
