The United States has issued a statement emphasizing its stance on Cuba’s medical missions, condemning the participation of foreign governments in these programs.
The U.S. asserts that by engaging with Cuba’s medical system, which it says has been widely criticized for human rights violations, other nations are effectively enabling the Cuban regime’s exploitative practices. The U.S. maintains that such involvement makes these countries complicit in the regime’s tactics, as their actions directly support the abuse and exploitation of Cuban workers.
Furthermore, according to U.S. officials, “There are alternative methods available for Caribbean nations to recruit foreign medical workers and ethically meet the healthcare needs of their people.”
In the statement, the U.S. government underscores the importance of rejecting what it terms “forced labor schemes” and calls on all governments and citizens to stand against these practices. It further urges the international community to demand accountability and uphold human rights in the face of alleged ongoing abuses linked to Cuba’s medical missions.
The statement ended with a reiteration by the U.S. government that it is committed to holding accountable those responsible for facilitating forced labor, and said that genuine progress in human rights can only be achieved through collective action and adherence to ethical standards.
it’s good discourse. let me highlight to the observers and commentators that the issue is a human rights issue. forced labour is wrong. any objective human being would consider the medical mission program as forced labour. don’t be naive folks with all the geopolitical distra tion…The US is the super power in the western hemisphere, that asserts Monroe doctrine(no more colonization from eastern part of hemisphere). so bottom line is..we conform like nations before have under the will of the super power. 👌

Statement form USA. Furthermore, according to U.S. officials, “There are alternative methods available for Caribbean nations to recruit foreign medical workers and ethically meet the healthcare needs of their people” DNO I would greatly appreciate your inquiring from the US to name the alternate sources and if they would meet the financial cost. The Government may also inquire. We need solutions not suggestions.
hmmm…I spoke on this matter in a previous post…enough of this communist bullshi.. yall need to stop being hypocritical about what’s obvious. the Cuban government taking lump sum payments from governments and paying their people under living conditions little to nothing. thats paramount to slavery. ask Cubans in Cuba yall self
I am a Dominican/ American and really feel it for my people. But truth is we must blame Skerrit and his One China policy for our state.
Skerrit is yet to put out what is in the MOU he signed with China 22 years ago and we know both Cuba and Venezuela are very close allies of China. China has all but taken over Dominica and Skerrit continues to be involved in secret deals with Cuba and Venezuela.
Furthermore, Skerrit met Ross University medical school in Dominica and had a very good opportunity to help train Dominican doctors right here in Dominica. But instead he forced Ross out of Dominica just because of his “One China policy “ . Let me quote Lisa M Wardell as to why Ross moved to Barbados…” Barbados has a matured health care delivery system and …a teaching hospital to support our students and faculty”.
In other words Dominica was not interested in health. Even the health boat that use to come here from the US is no more. So pressure must be put on Skerrit and not the US
So why didn’t America take over Dominica? And how has China taken over Dominica? If any country has been taken over by China it is America. China is heavily invested in America. they invest in US treasury bills and they are major trading partners, so stop with your rubbish about communism and ask your racist massa Trump to remove the economic embargo on Cuba. Of course your infantile comment would not be complete without blaming Skeritt. By the way Skeritt did not create the one China policy it is a policy that all countries that have diplomatic relations with China recognize, this includes America.
Which other country has committed more human rights abuses than the US? Look at what ICE is doing right now! Look at how many leaders in Africa, Central and South America, and other parts of the world that the US had assassinated.
They started a ear in Iraq under false pretended and slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent people. They supplied Israel with weapons, money and gave them carte blanche support to massacre tens of thousands of Palestinians.
Cuba has been a tower of strength and support for the Caribbean region through thick and thin. They have NEVER invaded nor killed one citizen of the Caribbean. What valid reason do we have to repudiate them now?
Together we are so strong. Individually we are so weak. America is picking us one by one because we have refused to put up a united front. Insularity and selfishness shall seal our fate.
Who cares. Trump and his cabal can take a hike. He should have been in jail alongside the late Jeffrey Epstein for his involvement in child sexual trafficking and exploitation crimes. Not occupying the White House and trying to bully small defenceless Caribbean countries into submitting to his whims and fancies. As far as we know, Caribbean countries are independent and as sovereign nations, under international law, are free to make their own foreign affairs decisions. The UN should be demanding the release of Maduro and his wife being held captive by Trump, while he keeps stealing millions of barrels of Venezuelan crude oil which he is selling to his oligarchy friends and depositing the proceeds in a secret bank account in Qatar. Caribbean people must pressure their governments to resist this despot. The Cubans are our neighbours and we should stand with them to against American /Trump aggression.
Is the economic embargo against Cuba by the US an act of concern for the well-being of the Cubans or is it just a continuation of America’s war against Cuba because of it’s communistic approach to governance? If America is so concerned about the people of Cuba why not lift the embargo, stop blocking vital resources like oil from entering Cuba.
Agreed! The problem cannot be Cuba’s system of government. The US trades with China which is a communist government.
America imposes economic sanctions and embargoes on selected countries that are not aligned with their foreign policy agency. Destroy the economies of these countries (Cuba, Venezuela, Iran) etc then blame the leadership of these said countries for economic turmoil and
impoverishment that inevitably befall these places.
Do they care about the inhabitants of these countries? Not one iota!
By the way, the Trump administration has never produced an authentic piece of evidence to prove that Nicolas
Maduro or his wife were engaged in drug trafficking. The many boats that they have blown up and scores of innocent people they have murdered, not one thread of evidence had been provided that these people were involved in the drug trade. The western media just run with the US disinformation.
