The Dominica Library and Information Service will mark Library Week 2026 with a series of activities taking place from May 18 through May 23 under the theme, “Empowering Communities through Knowledge, Culture and Innovation.”
The annual observance is designed to recognize the value libraries bring to education, literacy, cultural awareness, and community advancement throughout the country.
A release from the Ministry of Education shared that this year, organizers are focusing on inspiring a love for reading, encouraging continuous learning, supporting creativity, and increasing awareness of the resources and services available through the nation’s libraries.
Officials say that events planned for the week are expected to attract participation from students, educators, and the wider public. Activities will be hosted at several locations, including the National Archives Unit, the Documentation Centre, the Roseau Public Library, and branch libraries in Portsmouth, Marigot, and Grand Bay.
According to the release, the initiative aims to encourage people from all age groups to make fuller use of libraries as centres for study, exploration, innovation, and self-improvement.
The Dominica Library and Information Service is inviting the public to join the week-long observance and celebrate the lasting role libraries continue to play in national development and community life.
“Library Week is an important national observance that highlights the vital role libraries and archives play in education, literacy development, research, cultural preservation, and lifelong learning,” said Renita Charles, Chief Librarian.
