UPDATE: Victim of fatal shooting in St. Kitts identified as Dominican student Sean Kadim John

Sean Kadim John

The victim of the fatal shooting in St. Kitts that Dominica News Online (DNO) reported earlier today has been identified as 18-year-old Sean Kadim John, a Dominican national and student of Washington Archibald High School in St. Kitts.

According to a statement issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on Sunday morning, the incident occurred late Saturday night in the College Housing area, a residential district near Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. Police confirmed that John sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

John was originally from Gutter Village in Roseau, Dominica.

A family member told DNO that his mother found him lying in his bed with a bullet wound to the head.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident. No suspects have been named, and the motive remains unknown.

The shooting follows recent concerns about gun violence in the Federation. Earlier this week, law enforcement officials reported the discovery of illegal firearms and ammunition in an area called Saddlers in the twin-island Federation.

    Proverbially speaking, there is absolutely nothing new under the Caribbean sun.

    The proliferation of illegal firearms has been a pandemic scourge across continents, with the bulk of collateral damage being inflicted on individuals and communities that can be labeled the “the least of those”.

    Quite often, the very establishments and gatekeepers who are tasked with steming the flow and proliferation of illegal firearms are guilty in aiding, abetting and excaserbating the problem.

    While we have not yet regressed to the civil war days of Seaga and Manley in Jamaica, there is every reason to fear that the Caribbean as a whole maybe facing the real possibility of an all out OK Corral renassaince.

      @Lin Clown
      DNO should have a way of covering up garbage so that noone reads it. This fool is not just a clown, but seem like his brain has been depleted by the use of something.
      Why bring in Skerrit into
      this?

    Very, very sad and unfortunate that this young had to lose his life to we senseless gun violence. It’s heartbreaking. I empathise with the family during this time of their most profound bereavement.

    All these Caribbean islands are suffering from frequent gun violence. These instruments are not manufactured in the Caribbean , mostly in the US. Why the Caribbean don”t insist on a summit at the Trump administration strictly to hold talks on combating the flow of illicit guns and ammunition to the Caribbean region from North America. The abuse of guns on the streets will greatly reduce the incidents of crime mostly particularly murder. Something has to give.
