United Progressive Party (UPP) representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency, Lemuel Corriette, has called for a reassessment and a reevaluation of the Petite Savanne Community.
Following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Erika in 2015, residents of Petite Savanne were displaced and relocated to Bellevue Chopin.
The Community of Petite Savanne is traditionally known for its rich culture.
However, UPP says it is not currently aware of any cultural centre for that community where residents can maintain the arts, pass on the arts to their children, and maintain their cultural heritage.
“Some people might want to stay in Bellevue Chopin, some might not. The thing is, it is a sensitive time,” Corriette said while speaking as a special guest on Q-95 Radio ‘Talk on the Block’ Program this week. “For me, I cannot specify what I should do. As I told you right here–and there in Bellevue Chopin–they need land, they need a proper place for recreation.”
According to him, for the people of Petite Savanne who own properties there and desire that the value of these properties returns, “there are things that need to be done for things to happen.”
Corriette continued, “To me, it doesn’t make much sense just saying what I have planned for the people. Anybody who knows me knows that I am the person who will stand up. I wouldn’t back down. My community needs something I will try to represent.”
He added, “But as for saying what I think I need, I am not even sure where the people want to be right now. I want to talk to the people first.”
When asked about the representation of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in Petite Savanne, Corriette said he takes no issue with the representative there. However, he said, “I don’t think there is a problem of who is there, I think the problem is who is leading them.”
Meanwhile, he believes that the Petite Savanne Community is still habitable.
“The land itself…nothing much happened to the land,” he said. “A few houses were at risk, and those people could be relocated or choose to be out of the village if they wanted to. It should be their choice, but the village is safe enough…”
To be honest, UPP is the same as Pappy Party.
This guy sounded like an illiterate when.I heard him.on Matt and on the interview with Lufty! He looks like a ganster and a drug user.
At least UPP can try to get decent cadidates to at the least look like UPP is serious.
Oh no Joshua, mister may be a youthful nice guy but really? The man sounded clueless, half dead, doped in bothe the interview with Lofty and on Matt. Mister needs to clean-up, shape up, brace up and have a workable plan. If that is the quality/ caliber of people the opposition parties plan to run against Chichi again, chou-nou-patay for another 50 years for real. Wheel and come again!
because politics in Dca does not need another “pooohsee” footer.
How you going to run for political office looking like a gangster? Braids, pierced ears, mean mugging. What is this? I mean I know the UPP is just a meme but the least they can do is try to present themselves as a serious party.
The media whore usually brings people on the blue radio station unprepared. The issue this guy have is with Skerrit, just like UWP,UPP and DFP.The DLP government has always said Petite Savanne is a dangerous place to live, whoever wants to go back to live there can do so.
These quotes are unbelievable. So basically he has no plan, no ideas.
