In 2026, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) will kick off its annual cycle of Council Meetings starting on Friday, March 6, at the Mona Campus. The university announced via press release that the initial gathering will set the tone for the series of discussions and reviews scheduled throughout the year.
The opening session at Mona will feature a keynote presentation by Professor Densil Williams, the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, at 9:00 AM Jamaica time. He will deliver an overview of the university’s achievements during the 2024–2025 academic year, highlighting major research initiatives, business activities, student statistics, and engagement levels among staff and students.
In the subsequent weeks, governance bodies from each of the five campuses—Mona, Cave Hill, St. Augustine, Five Islands, and the Global Campus—along with the regional system, will meet to evaluate institutional performance for the same period. These gatherings will include reviews of accountability reports and opportunities for dialogue with stakeholders about the university’s strategic goals.
A key feature of these meetings is their public broadcast, continuing a tradition that champions transparency and accountability. This platform allows each Campus Principal and Vice-Chancellor Beckles to share updates on operations, finances, and academic progress from the prior year. As a publicly funded institution serving 17 nations, The UWI’s commitment to openness, regional service, and responsible management of public resources is underscored through these sessions.
According to The UWI, the timing of this reporting comes shortly after its recent ranking by Times Higher Education, which places the university among the top 3.6% in the world—an impressive feat considering there are approximately 35,000 universities globally.
Like in previous years, these presentations will be streamed live via UWItv, ensuring access for media outlets and the general public. Each session will also feature a dedicated Q&A segment for media questions, which can be submitted through interactive channels during the broadcast.
