UWI installs new chancellor, Dr. the Most Honourable Dodridge Miller on March 15

On March 15, 2025, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) will hold a formal ceremony to celebrate the installation of Dr. the Most Honourable Dodridge Miller as the seventh Chancellor in the university’s esteemed history.

A UWI press statement shared that around 300 guests are anticipated at this significant event, including prime ministers, governors-general from numerous Caribbean nations, government officials, academic leaders, business representatives, and members of civic organizations.

This occasion will unite notable figures from both regional and international spheres. The ceremony is set to unfold at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados and will be streamed live on UWItv starting at 6:00 PM (Eastern Caribbean Time).

The Chancellor’s Installation Ceremony is an important university custom that marks a new era of leadership within the institution, states the press release. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Chancellor Miller has chosen a cricket theme, which reflects both his love for the sport and the vibrant cultural heritage of the university—melding tradition with Caribbean identity.

The event will commence with traditional processions featuring academics and the chancellor, followed by opening comments from the Registrar of the University, as well as a formal declaration of the ceremony’s intent by the Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Miller will then share his dedication to enhancing the welfare of the university and its constituents through an official pledge.

A key highlight of the ceremony will include a symbolic robed event, where Dr. Miller will be dressed by the Presidents of the Student Guild Councils from various campuses. He will receive a Tudor bonnet—an emblem of knowledge—placed upon him by a representative of the Campus Principals. Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor will present the ceremonial mace, signifying the formal investiture of the new Chancellor.

An alumnus of The UWI, Chancellor Miller brings over three decades of leadership experience in the banking, insurance, and financial sectors, having retired from his role as Group President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company in March 2023. He is celebrated as a prominent figure dedicated to the growth and development of the Caribbean region.

Among those who have served as Chancellor at The University of the West Indies are esteemed individuals including Her Royal Highness the Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone; Sir Hugh Wooding; Sir Allen Lewis; Sir Shridath Ramphal; Professor Sir George Alleyne; and Robert Bermudez.

Fancy titles. How he end up being “THE most honorable?” Stupse. Why not add “ever” at the end of it? or “of all time”. Might as well call the man Jesus Christ while yall at it.

I gave a thumbs up. However, the last name you mentioned was a fictitious character created by breakaway uncle-tom Egyptian High Priests for Romans wanting to be God after invading Egypt, ie Constantine; and imposed upon enslaved people under sword, then canon & gun fire during various invasions, crusades. It’s a story of your African ancestor Heru, word for word. Might as well say Bels e Bob. Try Marcus Garvey or a real non-mythical character 🤔.
