Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Dr. Thomson Fontaine, has revealed that the party has received $38,750 in pledges which are expected to go towards the payments of its legal fees associated with a recent case against the Government of Dominica, concerning the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Program.
The fees were raised during a program on Q-95 Radio last Wednesday.
Pledges were also raised online via the UWP’s website at uwp-dominica.com and through Mobanking on account number 1005636 and Identification number-5552242.
Dr. Fontaine told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview on Tuesday that the party plans to hold more pledges at a later date to reach its target of $50,000.
“We plan to have more, probably not right away,” he said.
Senior Counsel and Former Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago Anand Ramlogan and his team are leading the case.
Ramlogan, who was addressing a press conference in September 2024 said he sees the case as one that is important for not only Dominica but the region.
In a previous interview with DNO, Dr. Fontaine said the lawyers are doing a tremendous job so far of “holding the government accountable for the countless hundreds of millions of CBI dollars.”
Let’s take a walk down memory lane during the tenure of UWP in office they refused to pay teachers who had gone on strike, the PSU took the matter to the Courts and the then UWP administration agreed to pay the legal fees on behalf of the PSU; I thought at the time it was a brilliant idea, but when the DLP took over the matter was discontinued. Since this present matter before the Courts is of public interest I therefore call on the Star-boy -of-Stupidity and his cabal that with immediate effect pay all the legal fees pertaining to this court action until the matter is amicably resolved once and for all. Don’t forget guys the money belongs to all-a-we, not those hungry DLP hyenas as described by al Jazeera.
If a major political party, a party that has been around for over 30 years has to beg the public for a measly $50,000.00, eastern Caribbean dollars at that in order to pay legal fees, it tells me that this party is not seriously ready for “prime time”. How do you expect to seriously compete against the incumbent administration if you’re signaling to us that you’re flat broke? It takes money to compete. Should we then read that this is the reason why you have not been competing in the past two elections, first the one in Grand Bay and then the last snap election? You guys are definitely portraying a sense of hopelessness to your supporters and not one which can drive enthusiasm amongst your base. Get serious guys so that your supporters can take you seriously.
How are the lawyers holding the government accountable when the case is filed in the court, and government business continue as usual,This case is a case between a political party(UWP)with no seats in parliament and the government. It is not a case of the PEOPLE vs government.Government does not have to answer to UWP,and UWP is not working in the interest of the PEOPLE.UWP must get evidence to show the government is not transparent and accountable, the must also produce evidence of the missing billions,in whose account and in what country it is.Government must go to court, but as defendants they have nothing to prove. The constitution makes provision for the people not a political party with no seats. So it look like all dogs, cats, rats, donkeys and blue bed bugs can go to court with government whenever they feel like and expect government to produce evidence.
Thank you lord….keep on fighting doc for I can see the light in this one. Regardless of how it goes in the lower courts we must prepare the people to understand this one will end up in the highest court through appeals so be patient and donate when asked.
I in that all the way……Blessing of the fighters!
Press on UWP and let nothing nor anyone deter you from foraging for the truth. We have to expose the truth about the missing billions held in blackhole.
Good to hear. I supported the cause, because i am concerned that Dominica’s money is in the hands of someone we do not know.
Next on the agenda? Get your tail back home to be with the people. My constituency has not seen any UWP person since 2019.
No care taker, nobody since 2019?. Is this a joke? The constituency should be sealed by now.
Why is it that an ordinary man can see what to do to woo voters, and you all guys are so doggone blind!
The groundwork has a failing mark.
