The United Workers Party (UWP) has extended congratulations to Thea Lafon-Gadson on her momentous achievement at the ongoing 2024 Olympics.
Lafond-Gadson created history when she became Dominica’s first gold medalist last Saturday at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. She competed in Women’s Triple Jump recording 15.02m. The silver went to Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica with 14.87m, with USA’s Jasmine Moore claiming bronze with 14.67m.
“Her feat has rightly triggered tremendous national and international attention to our beautiful island of Dominica,” said party officials.
“This outstanding achievement coming just a few months after she secured the world indoor title in the same event is [a] fitting testament to her commitment, dedication, and hard work, which she continues to exhibit. Indeed, just this past June her efforts and achievements in the field of Track and Field [were] publicly acknowledged by the UWP when she was awarded for outstanding achievement in the field of sports, during our Economic Revival Summit and Awards Ceremony,” they further stated.
Meanwhile, party leadership also took the opportunity to highlight the urgency of developing sports on the island, citing the need for greater investment in the sector. According to the statement, the construction of an all-weather athletic facility is “long overdue” given “the tremendous contributions [that] can come from our young people who invest the time and effort in sports.”
“…More needs to be done to encourage this participation through the development of sporting facilities and greater investment in sports. We continue to wish Thea continued success as she works to represent Dominica on the world stage,” asserts the UWP.
Congratulations Ms. LaFontaine on such an amazing accomplishment. The spirit of your grandpa is guiding you. it’s not a coincidence that he was being called TeeLafond and that same name has resonated with you. TiaLafond. Are the UWP actually giving themselves credit ? Get a Life!!
Well deserved! She has gone to the forest and cleared a path for other Dominicans youth to follow.
Just imagine, local athletes have to perform on a grass track. All the other independent neighbouring islands have proper athletic stadiums with prefabricated synthetic rubber track surface.
These other Caribbean governments realise the value of sports to the youths and are willing to invest in their future.
I heard Thea at a press conference taking questions from international journalists and disseminating basic information about Dominica to this worldwide audience. The government would have to pay advertisers ‘big time’ for such invaluable publicity of the country.
Look out for a deluge of promises and loose commitments from.the lying and dishonest publicity seekers (Roosevelt and members of his cult-
like congregants. Well done is always better than well said.
