The United Workers Party has extended sympathy and support to the families, businesses, and property owners affected by the devastating fire in Roseau.
In a statement issued today, the Opposition party expressed deep concern over the significant damage to several businesses, noting that many livelihoods were negatively impacted by the blaze.
Political leader Dr. Thomson Fontaine noted that “my heart goes out to all those who would have lost their jobs and to the property and business owners who have suffered such great loss.”
The United Workers Party commends the Fire and Ambulance Services and other first responders for their swift action in containing the fire and preventing further destruction.

My grave concern is the number of people that will join the unemployment ranks. How are these people going to support themselves and their families in this grave economically depressed country?

Concrete and steel are not edible. What is more important than building structures is sustainable, good paying jobs for all of working age. The government does not even have a ‘Rainy Day Fund’ or ‘Emergency Fund’ in place to tap into for times like these.

Where there is no vision the people perish. The country needs a change to a visionary and discerning government.

I do not believe a word from UWP,they have a record of supporting everything negative about Dominica. In 2019 Melissa of DLP beat Cuffy of UWP by 190 votes in Roseau Central.I heard one UWP supporter say,the government spent $8,000,000 gospel fete, but they doe have a fire truck. So some UWP supporters are blaming the government for the level of destruction caused by the fire. That comment is a fact that will not be posted.

If he were to rebuild de entire square out of his pocket and save a space for you……………..You would claim him as your new light in shinning armor.
Skerrit never has anything good in mind for people who bowls at his wicket. For me, His sentiments for Jolly’s are just words flying in air for self image gratification.
Jolly will not go to Skerrit office with a begging bowl like some labor rats.
I smell a rat……………..Andy can deal with that too.
any hard working successful business person who is not alighned to Skerrit will get that can of nastiness…….If I were Jolly I would conduct my own private investigation far beyond this Skerrit led police force
