UWP questions President Burton about a new Chief Elections officer

According to a UWP press release, on September 26, 2024, the United Workers Party (UWP) – TEAM Dominica sent a letter to President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Her Excellency Mrs. Sylvannie Burton.

In this correspondence, the UWP sought clarification regarding the conclusion of the tenure and the appointment of a new Chief Elections Officer for the Commonwealth. The party reportedly pointed out that the tenure of the previous Chief Elections Officer had lapsed on September 25, 2024, and highlighted that the position remained unfilled.

UWP reports that a reply from the Office of the President, dated October 7, 2024, informed the UWP that Her Excellency was addressing the situation. As of now, there has been no announcement regarding the appointment of a new Chief Elections Officer for Dominica.

Only when the electors become restive and shut down the entire country will there be electoral reform. Dominica is a long way from that point and Mr.Skerrit knows that. Like I said in an earlier post, the country is not at the point of desperation, there’s lots of room for improvement but the citizens are not desperate therefore the opposition groups will not receive the numbers needed for an effective island wide strike. All things “Doom and Gloom” on island which is not the reality on the ground only exists in the heads of the opposition forces and not the average Joe making it difficult to stage such a protest. Additionally, the electorate is skeptical about whether the opposition forces are indeed ready and capable of running the country. You have to make a solid case for change before folks will buy into what you’re offering. Just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something will stick is not going to accomplish anything.

I have heard Dr. Fontaine talked about a possible pending election. He stated that he will be guided by what the Dominican people want whether to participate or not in any future elections if there is no electoral reform.

Here he needs to be decisive. The majority is not always right. People put you in leadership to make the hard decisions. Sometimes, despite the majority, you as a leader have to make the judgment call with the sound advice from your trusted advisors.

Dr. Fontaine was right when he repeated that in order for the country to prosper the present DLP administration has to go. But he seems to have NO clue as to how to achieve this. Totally discombobulated and clueless!

Galvanize the people and shut down the country until the the corrupt regime has no choice but to concede to public pressure.

The masses are the decisive element, they are the rock on which the final victory of the revolution will be built.

Throughout the Caribbean today, DEMOCRACY is seriously infirm. The political parties in power have placed fierce partisan political diehards in positions that should be impartial ( President, DPP, House Speaker, election commissioner, Commissioner of Police, magistrates, judges) et cetera.

What has this done to the region? Widespread corruption, high unemployment, high indebtedness, high crime rate, low productivity, underwhelming development, entrenched political tribalism, 1% hogging 99% of public resources, injustice are ubiquitous.

The lives of the people throughout the Caribbean region, most particularly Dominica,
    are in peril.

Let’s be blunt. Every major appointment to the civil service made by Roosevelt is meticulously calculated to gain a political advantage. The current President of Dominica was carefully selected by Roosevelt not for her intellectual prowess but for her inflexible loyalty and deference for the congenital Liar (Starboy of Stupidity).

Expect a DLP lackey and Roosevelt’s brownnoser to assume the position of Chief Elections Officer whenever this post becomes vacant.

There will be no serious electoral reform under the misrule of the DLP. Only when the electors become restive and shut down the entire country. Does Thomson Fontaine have such influence to make this happen? No! His non-engagement in flesh with the electorate has emasculated the UWP.

To Dr. Thomson Fontaine: Be present, be engaged, and watch the support for the UWP swell.
