As part of its continued efforts to sensitize the public on the need for electoral reform before the upcoming general election, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and other organizations supporting the move will hold what they are calling a National Creole Parade today Friday.
The event is expected to begin at the Pottersville Savannah at 3 pm and culminate at the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard in Roseau.
President of the UWP Isaac Baptiste told Dominica News Online (DNO) that the event is not a protest or a march.
“It’s all part of our continued activity to sensitize the public on the urgent need for electoral reform and the pubic to get to the point where they understand clearly and are motivated to see to it that there are no elections without electoral reform,” he remarked.
He said the aim is to show the visitors and those in the diaspora that Dominica is not as well as the current administration would like to project.
“We are in a serious crisis at this point in time in our democracy,” Baptiste told our newsroom.
Following the parade at which participants are expected to carry flags, the group will deliver a letter and petition to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Gerald Burton, calling for his resignation.
A corresponding letter will also be sent to the President, His Excellency Charles Savarin.
Baptiste explained that the letter is not a petition but can be viewed “along the same lines.”
Meantime, Baptiste said so far, the UWP is satisfied with the turnout for the continued call for electoral reform in Dominica.
“The people are more demanding than the political opposition is. We just have to provide the leadership to them,” he said.

My grammar would be in adjective form, relating to or characteristic of a traitor; treacherous.
If you were as one fifth as smart as you pretend to be, you would have conveyed: “are trying.” Only ignorant people write sentences in upper case letters (block letters).
And that is all I have to say except reiterate only ignorant people with no scholastic or academic background express themselves in such a foolish way.
When a Nation is in crisis and the people feel affected, disenfranchised, oppressed by bad governance, they have a right to protest! There is no special time for protest, it’s even more effective in times like this when there’s an event like the independence celebration!!!! Well done Patriots!!!

The parade was in fact held, and was hugely successful..Many visitors joined in too. It was so successful that there was not a single police officer during the assembly at the Bayfront..
