Venezuela condemns US military aggression; declares state of emergency

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has issued a forceful denunciation of what it describes as “extremely grave military aggression” carried out by the United States against its territory and population. According to the official statement, strikes targeted both civilian and military sites in Caracas as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

The Venezuelan government characterized the attacks as a “flagrant violation” of the United Nations Charter, citing Articles 1 and 2, which uphold respect for sovereignty, the equality of states, and the prohibition of the use of force. Officials warned that the aggression endangers international peace and stability, particularly across Latin America and the Caribbean, and places millions of lives at risk.

The statement accused Washington of seeking to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, including oil and minerals, by undermining the country’s political independence. “They will not succeed,” the government declared, stressing that after more than two centuries of independence, Venezuela remains determined to defend its sovereignty and republican institutions against attempts at “regime change.”

Historical references were invoked to underscore Venezuela’s resistance to foreign intervention, recalling President Cipriano Castro’s defiance during the 1902 bombardment of Venezuelan coasts and invoking the legacy of national liberators such as Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Miranda.

President Nicolás Maduro has ordered the activation of national defence plans and signed a decree declaring a State of External Emergency across the country. The measure, officials said, is intended to safeguard the population, ensure the functioning of institutions, and prepare for armed resistance if necessary.

The government called on Venezuelans to take to the streets in unity, mobilizing social and political forces alongside the Bolivarian National Armed Force and police. Defence leadership bodies have been deployed nationwide, while Venezuela’s “Diplomacy of Peace” will present formal complaints to the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, CELAC, and the Non-Aligned Movement, demanding international condemnation of the United States.

Invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter, Venezuela asserted its right to self-defence and appealed to governments and peoples across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the wider world to mobilize in solidarity. The statement concluded with a quotation from former President Hugo Chávez: “In the face of any new circumstance of difficulty, whatever its magnitude, the response of all patriots must be unity, struggle, battle, and victory.”

Did CARICOM leaders, especially Skerrit send SSU to Venezuela to protect their interests? How I wish Mr Skerrit would open his mouth to condemn the US at this time.
