Victory for Dominica in CFU U14 Girls Challenge Series

Dominica closes out the group stage in style with a 4-1 win over the United States Virgin Islands (U.S.V.I)  in the CFU U14 Girls Challenge Series held in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

According to information from the Dominica Football Association Facebook Page, Kelsey Hussey opened the scoring before Breanna Briggs delivered a stunning hat-trick to seal the victory.

“Our Girls U14 National Team finishes unbeaten in the CFU U14 Girls Challenge Series Group stage,” the post said.

Introduced in 2018, the CFU U-14 Challenge Series is a holistic developmental competition that caters to boys and girls in alternating years.

It is the introduction to international competition for players. It aligns with the CFU’s developmental agenda and FIFA’s focus on further developing grassroots football in the region.

The Challenge Series is also pivotal to the CFU’s Next Generation Referee Course. It affords regional match officials with the requisite skills to advance to the FIFA International Refereeing Lists technical and practical training.

The series also trains match and venue coordinators.

Good to see our girls so dominant in this regional competition. They probably should be named the ‘Sisserous’ after our national bird, the same way England named their successful women’s soccer team, the ‘Lionesses’. Go on girls, you are making Dominica proud.
