WCMF artiste places blame for lost luggage on Dominica

Rotimi, a Nigerian-American singer, actor, and model, is set to perform at the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) but has taken to social media to express frustration over the loss of his luggage on his way to Dominica.

According to the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC), Rotimi is bringing his “captivating blend of R&B and Afrobeat” to the festival on day one.

However, just one day before the festival’s start, Rotimi aired his grievances online, seemingly placing the blame for the missing luggage on Dominica. “THEY LOST MY LUGGAGE,” he wrote in all caps, followed by an angry, cursing emoji. In a mix of lower and uppercase letters, he added, “I’m trying to be positive and keep a smile on my face and the vibes in my soul. BUT THEY LOST MY BAGS….Imagine traveling since 4 a.m. and then landing 18 hours later with flight connections and delays, ONLY TO LEARN YOUR BAG[S] AREN’T THERE.”

Rotimi’s social media post implied that Dominica was at fault for the mishap: “DOMINICA…I love you but in our newly started relationship we just had our first fight….now someone please help find my bag and let’s make up,” he wrote.

The exact airline involved was not mentioned in Rotimi’s post, leading to mixed reactions from social media users. One commenter wrote, “So how is Dominica to blame? It must be air Dominica… nonsense.” Another added, “So Dominica lost his bags?? Not the airline his people have to contact? .. mind he doesn’t get a quiet crowd when he goes on stage.”

The Dominica Festivals Committee and the Discover Dominica Authority have so far, not commented on the incident.

The WCMF, one of the island’s signature events during the Independence Season, will run from October 25 to 27, 2024 this year and will feature a range of musical styles including bouyon, cadence, reggae, dancehall, zouk, kompa, soca, and afrobeats.

Rotimi’s misplaced blame on Dominica has created some stir among Dominica’s online community, but despite the luggage issue, festival-goers remain excited for his performance and the hope is that the matter will be resolved swiftly.

I think his argument is flawed! Assuming that he is absolutely sure his luggage got to Dominica, then he could blame Dominica, perhaps even suggesting his baggage was stolen.
Even if he had a direct flight to Dominica, and when he arrived, his luggage was not found, he could only blame the incident on his place of boarding his flight to Dominica.
How can he blame his point of disembarkation unless he is suggesting his baggage were stolen by someone in Dominica!
That’s a flawed argument in every sense of the word.

Omg I understand his frustration! I arrived and my bags arrived 3 days later ridiculous! I know it was American Airlines fault but the nonchalant responses of the customer service representatives upset me more. They refused to verify the location of my bag in the system due to pure laziness. ” If your bags are not here they must be in Miami’ ” was the response I got on day two of this saga. My bag could have been loaded on the wrong plane and on the way to another destination. Do your job properly! Then we were told our bags where no longer a priority since we have already reach our destination. AA bag tracker was saying one thing and the representative was saying something else. When the bags arrived we waited over an hour and a half for an agent to show up at baggage claim to release our bags although they had be called at least 6 times. Can you imagine not having your bags for 3 days and having to stand and watch them for so long. No apologies for the delay no sense of urgency.

Don’t dignify that nonsense, nor express any sort of empathy regarding the foolishness that guy is talking! One of my daughters, and I traveled to Dominica from Los Angeles International Airport via Miami International, to Puerto Rico, and St. Lucia! I saw our luggage loaded on American Eagle in Puerto Rico.
By the time we got to Dominica, our baggage was nowhere to be found!
Two days later mine arrived, two weeks later my daughter’s arrived without her designer clothing.
The same happened to one of my sisters a week before, to this day they have yet to arrive!
One can’t blame the point of disembarking, unless we are suggesting the belongings are stolen at the end of the flight.
It is easy to conclude any loss we suffered had to have caused by the actions of person, or persons in St. Lucia.

“Dominica I love you!” How much more of a hypocrite can he be? His first boarding has to on an Airline wherever he started. Was it “AIR DOMNICA”? I am Dominican, living in Canada, but I do not know of an AIRLINE named “AIR DOMINICA”, how can that man blame my homeland for his loss of luggage?

Ye because the Dominican baggage crew literally rides the planes and handles your baggage to make sure they get to Dominica right? This guy is something else, might as well tell him go back

This nonsense: How can you Dominica for your lost luggage. “Imagine traveling since 4 a.m. and then landing 18 hours later with flight connections and delays, ONLY TO LEARN YOUR BAG[S] AREN’T THERE.” Who made your travel arrangement bros? Do not go on social media and give #hashtags and snippets, give us the whole story.

but of course it is Dominica to be blamed first.
dominica is responsible for getting him here so it’s no rocket science that the dominica authorities are to be blamed.
    duh

I guess that unless one of these mentally enslaved African artists spit on someone or kicks someone, we will continue to waste money including them in the WCMF festival for another disappointing performance. Their vibe doesn’t fit. Their attitude sucks. All fake, commercialized and plastic. Maybe he will get a lesson in humility here.

That’s not something you’ll should publish. We are the down fall of our own nation.

If you travelled with connecting flights as you claim, how can Dominica be blamed for your lost luggage. This is as absurd as it get!

That kind of stuff usually happens when you have to do a lot of connections. They probably left his stuff on one plane that he deboarded or sent it on another plane by accident. It’s a frustrating thing but unfortunately something that can happen all to easily.

This is somewhat avoided by having less connections though like if we had an international airport for example. I think he’s probably exhausted from all the connections and then having this massive problem at the end is like the icing on top. The frustration is undertandable

Maybe he should’ve flown private like Burna.

All jokes aside, connecting flights always carry some risk with baggage. And with multiple connections, the risk of “lost baggage” goes up quite a bit.

But I do empathize with his frustration.
