Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe will continue to affect the area during today. This is expected to maintain an increase in shower activity which could be moderate to heavy at times with gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms over the area. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be on the alert and should exercise extreme caution during today.
At 5am, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 18.5 North, longitude 62.9 West about 25 miles north northeast of Anguilla or 238 miles northwest of Dominica. Rainfall accumulations between 1 to 3 inches are possible in parts of Dominica as a result. A flood warning remains in effect for Dominica until 6pm today. However, current model guidance indicates that sustained tropical storm force winds associated with Philippe, pose no direct threat to Dominica. The met office will continue to monitor and to provide updates on this system. A gradual improvement in conditions can be expected by tonight.
Moderate to rough sea conditions are expected over the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 10ft on the eastern, northern and western coast. A small craft warning and a high surf advisory are in effect during the next 24 hours. Small craft operators are advised to remain in port. Sea bathers are advised to stay out of the water.
