WEATHER (6:00 AM, Wed October 8): Overcast skies, scattered showers today from Tropical wave; heavy rainfall, gusty winds expected from Thursday as TS Jerry approaches

A tropical wave continues to affect the area, resulting in cloudy to overcast skies with  scattered showers, some of which may be moderate to heavy at times, accompanied by thunderstorms. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks are advised to remain on alert and exercise extreme caution.

The Small Craft Warning and High Surf Advisory have been discontinued as sea conditions are expected to improve today, becoming slight to moderate, with waves up to 7 ft along the east coast and 3 ft along the west coast during the next 24 hours. However, as Tropical Storm Jerry approaches the region, a deterioration in sea conditions is likely on Thursday, with swells near 10 to 12 ft in open water on the east coast and near 7 ft on the west coast. All users of the sea are advised to monitor conditions closely and remain prepared.

At 5:00 AM, the centre of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 13.3°N and longitude 50.7°W, approximately 725 miles east south east of Dominica. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest at 23 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1003 mb. This general motion is expected to continue with a gradual decrease in forward speed over the next couple of days, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest and north beginning on Friday. On the forecast track, the core of the system is expected to be near or to the north of the northern Leeward Islands late Thursday and Friday. Rainfall accumulation in excess of 4 inches, accompanied by gusty winds, is expected across Dominica from Thursday. Interests in Dominica should continue to monitor closely the progress of Tropical Storm Jerry as it moves closer to the islands.
