Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially announced their commitment to a three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan, scheduled for January 2026 in the United Arab Emirates.

Miles Bascombe, the Director of Cricket at CWI, emphasized the importance of this series for their team’s development.

According to a CWI media statement, he said, This series provides an ideal platform for our preparation. Facing strong opposition in subcontinental conditions will help us sharpen our combinations and approach, and it also gives our players a chance to build confidence on surfaces similar to those we’ll encounter in India and Sri Lanka.”

From the Afghan side, Naseeb Khan, CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, highlighted the strategic significance of the series. He remarked, “Competing against the West Indies on the brink of a global event presents an excellent opportunity for our team to finalize their lineup and enhance their preparations for the upcoming mega event in India and Sri Lanka. We have been closely monitoring the team’s preparation process, and facing a quality West Indies side offers an ideal platform for their buildup.”

CWI reported that the matches are scheduled to take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The first T20I will be held on January 19, followed by the second on January 21, and the third on January 22. All encounters will be hosted at the same venue in the UAE.

“The contest is expected to provide both teams with invaluable game time and will significantly contribute to their preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 beginning in February,” said the release.
