The West Indies Women’s cricket squad has recently wrapped up a rigorous high-performance training session at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, as Cricket West Indies (CWI) intensifies its efforts to foster growth in women’s cricket throughout the Caribbean region.

CWI reported that the training camp in Antigua was structured in two distinct phases to optimize development opportunities. The initial cohort completed a two-week regimen earlier this month, while the subsequent group finished their training last week under the supervision of their coaching team, which includes Senior Women’s Head Coach Shane Deitz, assistant Ryan Austin, and pathway coach Ulric Batson.

The program was meticulously crafted to encompass all facets of contemporary cricket, from fine-tuning technical techniques and tactical understanding to boosting physical fitness and strengthening mental resilience.

With significant international matches approaching, this camp was regarded as a vital element of CWI’s strategic plan to consistently elevate the national women’s team to a world-class standard.

The Antigua training initiative complements CWI’s broader development efforts, notably a partnership with the Super Kings Academy in Chennai, India. Currently, fifteen promising female players are developing their skills within a professional high-performance environment there.

Senior Women’s Head Coach Shane Deitz explained the purpose behind the developmental camp: “We had a mixture of established players, new players and fringe players come to Antigua for the last 5 weeks. It’s been great to be able to focus on some fundamental technical work and some strength and conditioning work. We were also able to conduct fitness testing and have already seen some improvements in a short space of time.”

He added,“Hector Martinez our Strength and Conditioning Coach has been pushing the players, and they are responding very positively. The girls will head to the WCPL now and after the end of that tournament we will have an intense few months of training which will prepare us for a very important 2026.”

Looking ahead, the West Indies Women’s team faces a demanding schedule, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, a home series against Sri Lanka and Australia, and an away series in Ireland.
