The gruesome and most brutal murder of Tricia Wiltshire of Castle Bruce (who resided at Stockfarm) – in the prime of her life – has left we the members of the Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP) numb.
As women, we are torn for our sister, Tricia, who is now lying cold. Dead! Our entire team offers our deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of sister Tricia. We are indeed devastated, deflated, flustered, ruffled, and torn, but we are ever more determined to stand and fight for women, men, our children – the youth – and Dominicans from all walks of life. We have a soft spot for women, hence the reason our Movement of Mother (MoM) Initiative had been established.
These sorts of actions do not just float in thin air. There are conditions in society that give rise to such activities and we need to speak up against them. This senseless murder of Triscia should be a clarion call. Let us not just pretend as if this did not happen. Let us keep the ‘silent cries’ of our dying sister in our mind, and please, Dominica, let us rally together for progress. There appear to be some who are too comfortable to hear and feel what the majority hears and feels, so we need to devise a way so that they will hear and feel what we have to say. Let us get them out of the way, if we have to, and let us address our problems.
Who have we become? Why have we stopped progressing? Our nation is hemorrhaging. Crimes have been on the rise, people are suffering, and yet some say we are living nice. Have we lost grip of our conscience? Who is willing to bring a stop to the slide of the social decay which is taking place in Dominica? Can we not see what is so evident? What are we waiting for to turn the corner, which is begging us to turn? Shall we elect to go over the precipice of despair instead of taking the turn towards progress?
Ladies and gentlemen, Dominicans, friends, and political foes, we are at a dangerous crossroads of selfishness and greed, political stagnation and diminishing foresightedness, suppression and oppression, and progress, together, as a united and determined people. Which road will we take?
We need a fixing. Dominica needs an overhaul. Let us at least try a different path, because something is not working. Tricia could be you or one of us. Tricia could be someone else’s daughter. Let us stand up and fight for her. Let us not forget her. This crime should bother us to the point where we take action. Let us decide to embrace good and decency on our island, and let us work towards progress. We have become too tolerant of the things which should bother us to the core.
Talking is a good action, but let’s move the talk to the sort of activism which finds its way at the top of the agenda-setting priority list of the Dominican administration. We are ready to lead where you, the people, direct us to lead. We have made and will continue to make the sacrifices. Let us change the tempo of civility and grab a more progressive and united mantra for growth and development.
The anger which we now feel will not subside until you are angered as we are, and you join us to help steer the ship of the State towards calmer waters. The precipitous slide to pain, hurt, selfishness, hunger, destitution, and the apparent immunity to the suffering of others is rapid. We need to level out the slope or face sudden despair.
Our society needs to be led in a different direction, and that direction depends on your progressive action.
My Condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Wilshire. May Her soul REST IN Peace.
I do not know the details of what happened but the above Article to me is not of good taste.
APP your long epistle shows your political immaturity and opportunistic play for power. This statement is too lengthy and meandering. It also appears as of you want to profiteer politically from untimely demise of an innocent sister.
You should encourage people to live neighborly, give the police ever bit of information no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Encourage residents to form community watch groups. Demand of government to equip the police with the requisite resources (human & material) in crime prevention and detection.
Stop the political profiteering.
I hate it when politicians use the death of an innocent person to make political mileage of. Ms Blanchard, you are making the same mistakes that Lennox Linton makes, that’s why the electorate never takes him seriously when it comes to election time. Using the murder of an innocent woman to make political mileage off, is not only stupid, but despicable and an insult to the victim and her grieving family. Murders happen in all countries all over the world no matter what government in power. If you are fortunate enough to get into government one day, there will still be murders, accidents, illnesses, deaths etc. So stop with your none sense. Send your sympathies to the deceased family and let the police do their job in helping to capture who was responsible for her murder.
APP, why do you promote anger? Hatred of any kind is bad. You want violence to stop but you are contradicting yourself at that point.
Also… Why are you campaigning on someone’s death? Just another politician huh?
All the same…
The change we need is to stop Judging each other, be at peace with your neighbor and close off all access to American anything… food, broadcasting, videos, twitter, etc.
Don’t close yourselves to your fellow islands. Help your neighbor, take pity on each other and not take videos of our pain instead.
THAT is the ONLY way out of our mess. Stop subscribing to the global BS that we eat on a daily. Stop lying down for everything and not standing up for what is right.
Society and social structures are a fail and until we understand that, no one will be at the Creator’s side, when the time comes.
I do not see anything wrong with that statement. The statement is perfect! Very well said. Those who chose to just push their own party vibes instead of such constructive engagements with the people will always find issues with that statement. Way to go APP.
I share the same sentiment. Thank you for this powerful message!!It’s time we wash of our faces and face the harsh reality that is eating at our flesh!!let’s open our eyes and find remedial solutions to seriously curb those gruesome crimes especially against women!!I say enough is enough !!Let’s pray for the cleansing of our nation ,Dominica!!!
she is “laying” in the cold. Not lying. there is a difference.
ADMIN: APP’s usage is correct, you can read the following link to learn more: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/lay-lie/#:~:text=What's%20the%20difference%20between%20lay,but%20you%20lay%20something%20down.&text=The%20same%20rule%20applies%20to,lie%E2%80%94there%20are%20two%20options.
Emotional statements, may not be the way forward. As an aspiring political leader you should be aware that society must take the blame in such instances. But when Dominica was ever Humane nuh? Dominica was born out of True true Inhumanness, the Crimes perpetrated and committed on the so-called Nature island has been well documented, the crying Spirits are still in our midst seeking peace.Time could never wipe out Crime, What could help though, is real gender education, while at the same time, calling out Fathers, Mothers/Sisters who continue to grow malformational future generations. The way of life inherited from the Colonials, continue to put tremendous burdens on Afribean women, and the politrix certainly will not make it easier. The need to Educate to Elevate is so real as we move onward.
Let me just say what we are all thinking….
So there’s “humane” murder?
🤦🏾♂️
Otherwise… i agree with the sentiments of the piece.
Sounds to me like the APP is pimping the late Tricia Wiltshire. So sad.
Agreed…..Very sad…
Where is our humanity is a question they truly should be asking themselves .
Yet more people using the poor girls death for political gain ,or to push their own agenda .
No mention of assisting to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice .
All those who heard her crying out for help and played they did not hear; remember it could have been your own child. We really have to start taking up the mantle again to help our neighbours. Its very disturbing. I pray that the person who did this brutal murder gets caught.
