Firefighters in the Los Angeles area in the US are currently combating a devastating series of wildfires that have claimed five lives and left significant destruction in their wake. The fires, which have scorched vast swathes of land from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, have forced thousands to evacuate their homes amid chaotic conditions. So far, five deaths have been reported in relation to the fires.
While fierce winds exacerbated the fires’ spread, a slight calming in the weather has offered first responders a critical window to make progress in subduing the blazes. Notable incidents include the Palisades and Eaton fires, which have destroyed nearly 2,000 structures and threatened the fabric of local communities.
The most recent outbreak occurred in the Hollywood Hills, close to iconic landmarks and densely populated neighborhoods. Despite the ongoing danger, areas like the Hollywood Walk of Fame reportedly remained filled with tourists and onlookers, some recording the flames for social media, a juxtaposition that starkly highlighted the risks posed by the fires above.
Fire Department officials took immediate action to curb the advancing flames, employing aggressive firefighting techniques, which, coupled with a more favorable weather pattern, contributed to significant advancements in controlling the Sunset Fire.
The tragic loss of life has compounded the distress felt by affected families, instigating a call to action for city officials and emergency management teams to bolster response strategies during this critical time.
According to AP News reports, approximately 130,000 individuals are currently subject to evacuation notices and over 450,000 residents found themselves without electricity on Wednesday evening, as reported by the tracking website poweroutage.us.
The current Los Angeles budget for 2024-2025 includes, $100,000 for Trans Gender and Homeless Shelters.
The Democrats are more interested in DEI, (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.), focus on Trump and and being a sanctuary city. They ignore the needs of their citizens. The authorities in California
don’t care to insure that the hydrants are in good working conditions, and the need to construct and maintain the water in reservoirs in light of this current fire catastrophe.
I can imagine what the residents are going through.
The residents have to start their lives all over again being homeless and uncomfortable in that living condition. Many of them does not have Insurance and to add insult to injury the insurances are fleeing the state
Tis is truly catastrophic.
Admin; I for one appreciate your efforts to keep people informed with the past and latest happenings; nevertheless, one must be careful with the type of information they disseminate!
Case and point, the caption reads: “Wildfires rip through Los Angeles neighborhoods.”
Admin, that in the quote is totally false information, that is not true there are several fires burning, however, no wild-fires has ripped through Los Angeles. I just left Los Angeles, where I spent the last week in one of my homes, I left two hours ago to the Inland Empire to another of my residence. Let me be clear the fires which destroyed properties in the Palisades, has not touched anything in Los Angeles, for that to happen it would have to burn all of the cities of Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood too. There are no fire burning in Pasadena; however, five people died in Altadena, which is an area adjacent to Pasadena. Pacific Palisade, to Los Angeles – Altadena is 34.7 miles: 1hr 4 min. driving okay!
@Francisco Telemaque.
You are too boaster. Who asked you how many homes you have? Captain BOASTER!
When are you coming to Wesley to buy us some cold, cold beers?
How is your good friend Elizabeth doing?
Tell her hello for me, and please don’t forget.
I have not heard from Elizabeth for a long time, in our last communication I found out she had some serious medical issues which caused her to be hospitalized for some time.
I worry about her too, but even when I call her number the phone rings, she doesn’t answer!
I hope she is alright.
Finally, I do not boast about anything I possess, everything to my name, entrusted into my hands by God Almighty, through his Son Jesus Christ, some hard work, there is nothing to boast about!
By way I forgot to tell you I may never return to Wesley for the rest of my life!
My parents are all dead, aunts and uncles too.
I have a few nieces and nephews, I doubt they even know me.
We buried one in November: Collie, don’t know how many are alive in Gaudaloupe, Antigua.
Hansey is alive, the one with the withered arm: he and Renold are the only two who would recognize me.
The priorites of Democrats in California are misplaced. They are more interested in things like trees and small
fishes, and pay little attention to the needs of the citizens.
For example, during Trump’s 1st presidency he allocated millions of dollars to bring water to southern California. Governor Gavin Newson (Democrat) sued the Trump administration, and his excuse was, This project will disturb a little fish named “Smelt” which people hardly eat.
Millions of dollars were allocated to build reservoirs and not one was built.
Millions of gallons of water are rushing down to the ocean, while the fire hydrants are empty and are not working.
Mayor of L.A. Karen Bass (Democrat) slashed $17.7 Million dollars from the Fire Department buget.
They have money to pay for little boys in schools to change into girls and vice versa. Men from prisons who entered the U.S. illegally can transition from male to female and vice versa. This state pays for this madness.
Dominicans are not concerned about your silly American politics. Instead, direct your attention to the affected folks in the Los Angeles area who have lost everything.
Mark, some of the people who lost everything are capable to start rebuilding this very day.
The people who live in the Palisades, are very wealthy people, some of the burnt, and completely destroyed houses cost more than fifty million dollars.
One person I know plays on a television series for more than thirty years now, lost his home valued more than $15,000,0000.00 million dollars.
Another guy who is the first to win the first more than two billion dollar lottery, one of his mansion value three million dollars completely destroyed.
So, empathy felt for such people matters nothing. Many of them do have homes in different places in California, and other States.
Now, many in Altadena may have difficulty rebuilding, two different communities, different status, economically!
Francisco, I was referring to the majority of the people who lost everything in the fire and not a few billionaires/millionaires who reside in that neck of the woods. The vast majority are unable to build immediately if ever since a large number of them recently lost their home insurance. Empathy is still in order regardless of ones financial standing since a loss is a loss.
Lastly, a 3 million dollar property in that part of the country is not, I repeat, is not a mansion. The land is super expensive therefore the house itself is nothing to write home about.
How can I explain to you that nobody in Los Angeles area lost nothing due to fire!
Do you know the definition of the term “topography” well, those who may think of Los Angeles as part of Pacific Palisade or the opposite are people who don’t know okay!
If I am a citizen of a country for a little over forty years, and are not familiar with with the topographical of the I cities around me and in the one in which I reside; then I would be existing without any knowledge sense or purpose in life you see.
Let me tell you, sorry to put this in n here, you see all those thieving politicians in Dominica with their illegal gain wealth, from the corrupted boss crook, not even him could live in palisades.
John Charles, you are a bigger idiot than I thought, if you are not an idiot which I hope, you are not; you are presenting yourself as someone beneath what you might be! John; this here: “The priorites of Democrats in California are misplaced.” Hog-wash!” there are thousands of people whose homes are destroyed, rendered homeless, what does democrats priorities has to do with that?
If you have lots of money, you can live anywhere you wish in the United States!
What does that have to do with politics? In America, you don’t find people talking politics as you scum of of the earth people do in Dominica; where one lives in America, depends on what they can afford. In places like Pacific Palisades, Malibu and such places where the smallest lot to build on will cost over a million dollars, you have Republicans, and Democrats living next door associating with each other; so this crap you talking makes no sense whatsoever!
@ Francisco Dodds Telemaque from Wesley
Francisco why are you insulting the man so? When will you grow up?
Because Biden and Kamala lost the presidency, you are so vex?
Anyway put on your snickers and run away from the fire.
Please tell Donald Trump hello for me!
Trump!
Trump!
Trump!
I am not insulting him, but he is one of our people who must be dealt with in a drastic manner, for such language may prompt them to focus their attention on our political affairs in Dominica, rather than what is taking place in America!
He sets his sights on the Mayor of Los Angeles, who has in less than one year in office have taken many homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk of Los Angeles, and afforded permanent shelters, housing.
If she had not cut the budget in order to facilitate that effort, some of homeless, may have died in the streets!
Mr. John is simply my political foe, perhaps it is time for him to fight back, curse me out too, but he’s a chicken.
Hahahaha! De boy doh know how to fight back! I would only hope that he doesn’t view my incendiary as personal.
That’s not my intention, I do like to read his comments sometimes, they give my brain a reason to oscillate, and keep active eh!
Yes, when a tree falls in the forest, and there is no one to hear the noise it makes your stupid comments are the same.
Karen intended to cut $24 million from the budget, but even if she did, it would not have made any difference considering people in California has been dealing with such fires throughout the history of California!
Whereas she was criticize for cutting of $17 plus million from the budget, you all are not saying she did it to direct the money towards providing homes and shelters for the thousands of people, mostly Black people who are homeless sleeping out in the cold in Los Angeles, and other cities around the State.
Anyway, why are you so concern about America, California business, when conditions are the worst than even Haiti that is is turmoil in Dominica!
In any event, she cant sell California passports to finance homes and shelters for the homeless, if she try that she will go to jail!
This is less than a pin prick compared to the devastation Joe Biden and Netanyahu have done in Gaza.
Both scamps should be languishing in JAIL, in very very dark ptison cells.
Biden has sent about three hundred billion to Ukraine to fight his war, so he can take care of things.
I hope for the sake of Francisco Etienne-dogg,Figueroa street is still intact.Joe Biden should use use some of the billions he is sending to UKRAINE to help the people.
Well this is what you expect when the leadership in that region (state and local) are prioritizing “diversity” (hiring women over men for fire department, police etc), immigrants and other crap before for example cleaning up the forest floors to prevent brush fires from spreading.
@labour power
Francisco Dodds Telemaque will be good for you!!
😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄. I have a question to ask Francisco, but when he responds to you, i will do so.
You know the theory goes “a Leopard cannot change its color” and here you have confirmed that the Lin Clown which disappear into oblivion, and labor power are one of the same culprit!
You assassinate so many people for Roosevelt, now that his CID, and Melisa Navy Seals are zero in on you; you change your fictitious name to labor power but we have you pegged! Whatever name you use, there are no fires burning any place in Los Angeles since these latest inferno’s.
I was at my house in the middle of Los Angeles this morning, and left for another residence in another city, and up to the time I left there were no fires anywhere in the approximately 469 square miles, or 1,210km square). Anyway if you wish to know if I am safe; be informed the only discomfort suffered, in Los Angeles, is from flying ashes I had to wash off my car every morning while I was there.
And now I am at my other residence, I boy getting ready to slow cook some cow foot, into the night to eat for breakfast tomorrow.
