Traditional sailing race, TRADITOUR 2025, comes to Dominica

In a historic development, Dominica will serve as the starting point for the renowned TRADITOUR 2025, a celebrated traditional sailing race that attracts maritime enthusiasts from across the Caribbean. Announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority, Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton highlighted the significance of this event for the island and the region.

Scheduled to unfold from July 2 to July 4 at the picturesque Purple Turtle Beach in Portsmouth, the event promises a vibrant showcase of Caribbean culture, community spirit, and maritime tradition.

“From July 2nd to the 4th, join us as we welcome beautiful traditional boats from Guadeloupe and across the region for a lively celebration of culture, community, and Caribbean pride,” Minister Charles-Pemberton stated.

TRADITOUR 2025 marks a milestone as the first time Dominica will host the race’s starting point. Organized annually by the Sainte-Anne Sailing Association (ANASA) in Guadeloupe, the race typically features 11 stops around Guadeloupe. This year, it begins in Dominica, symbolizing what Discover Dominica authorities describe as the opportunity for a strong partnership between the two islands, and emphasizing regional cooperation in maritime and cultural exchange.

The event aims to promote sustainable tourism, bolster regional ties, and celebrate shared heritage.

The race’s route includes stops around Guadeloupe, with the grand departure from Portsmouth on Friday, July 4, 2025. The race’s launch will be accompanied by a three-day cultural festival from July 2 to July 4, organized in collaboration with local stakeholders, the Ministry of Tourism, Discover Dominica Authority, ANASA, and support from La Région Guadeloupe. Activities will encompass exhibition sailing, musical performances, cultural showcases, and community engagement along Dominica’s northwestern coast.

Anticipating significant regional interest, over 400 visitors and media representatives from Guadeloupe are expected to attend, boosting local economic activity and fostering cultural connections. The event offers an exceptional platform for Dominica to highlight its vibrant creative scene, coastal experiences, and identity as the Nature Island of the Caribbean—both on land and at sea, states the DDA.

“Dominica’s role as the starting point for TRADITOUR 2025 is a strategic step in our mission to position Dominica as a leader in sustainable, experience-driven tourism,” Minister Charles-Pemberton commented. “This event allows us to celebrate seafaring traditions, strengthen regional ties with Guadeloupe, and create opportunities for our creatives, vendors, and communities to benefit from increased visibility and visitor engagement. It exemplifies how tourism can serve as a bridge—connecting people, culture, and commerce across the Caribbean.”

A formal press conference will be held at 10:30 AM on July 2 at the Purple Turtle Beach Club in Portsmouth, with live broadcasts via social media and radio to keep the public informed.

Good initiative. Next move is to ensure that Dominica’s annual involvement in Trafditour is sustainable and beneficial to the local economy especially in Portsmouth
