Editor’s note: This interview was conducted in October 2025, during President Burton’s visit to China.
H.E. President Sylvanie Burton recently sat down with Chinese journalist Zou Yun on Leader Talk to delve into the Dominica-China friendship, analyze how the Belt and Road Initiative has affected community well-being, and explore how collaborative efforts have aided Dominica’s reconstruction following natural calamities.
The conversation further considers the environmental challenges posed by climate change to small island nations and President Burton highlights the Dominican government’s strong endorsement of the one-China policy.
She is also asked about her take on recent US regional strikes, and weighs in on what she states is ” bullying” into submission of smaller nations by the US.
In the interview, Burton affirms the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and appeals to the US to let “respectful” dialogue lead the way.

I believe that the president was sent to do deliver a message in the China to the US, by her boss.
Sadly this is the same president that allows Dominica to be without an opposition leader up to this day but she wants to shake her head to the US and tell them who to bully while her boss is bullying Dominicas right in her face. Not even Charlo that would have done this nonsense for his boss.
But if I were Trump I would strip her of her deplomatic passport, strip Skerrit of his and strp every single one of the ministers of theirs and ban them from entering the US. The US must see all of them as enemies of the US and stop them instead of those Dominicans that they put visa restrictions on to the point that our children can’t get a student visa, if our loved ones get sick or die in the US we can’t go their to visit them or bury them as if Skerrit them put their covid 19 ban on us. If I was the pn after seeing and hearing the interview I would immediately apologize to the US for this embarrassment and then call her to my office and fire her forthwith
Since PM did none of the above then one must conclude that she was sent to China by her boss to do exactly what she did. But Dominicans will pay for that because I know the US saw the video and waited to see if pm would discipline her but instead is a pay raise he gave her for a job well done. Only in Dominica boy because none of the other CBI countries would allow their president to go and attack the US in China because they know is their citizens that will pay for it.

Although we only got to know about it this weekend I bet Skerrit heard it in October as well as the US. My question is since the president of Skerrit is not a politician was she his messenger? I’m asking because I never heard Skerrit condemning, disassociating himself from this attack on the US? I even believe she should have been fired for such reckless, careless and untimely if not dangerous attack on the US. Instead she got a raise last week while Skerrit is out there fooling Dominicans about diplomacy.

For your ‘diversity hire’ comment, it’s usually the language of the racists/sexists, when they are unable to criticize the credentials of qualified individuals, who happens to be of different gender, skin colour, race, etc.
