The construction of the world’s longest cable car is ongoing in the Roseau Valley, with an expected completion date of December 2025.
This announcement was made by Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton.
The cable car will transport visitors up to the Boiling Lake.
“So, this project is well on its way, it is expected to be completed by December 2025,” she said. “This is one of the most exciting projects we have happening for us in this country.”
Charles-Pemberton continued, “I can tell you that we recently had a meeting with the cruise lines and they were just thrilled about this cable car project.”
She added, “We are going to have the longest cable car in the world, which is going to allow people to view.”
Charles-Pemberton pointed out that accessing the Boiling Lake can sometimes take a 6-hour hike.
“What this cable car will do for us is allow greater access to this rare natural resource that we have in Dominica which is the second largest Boiling Lake in the world and the only one in the Western Hemisphere,” she noted. “We are happy that because of the cable car project cruise visitors who are here in Dominica for a few hours will be able to visit that project.”
Furthermore, she said the installation of the cable car will cater to everybody. This includes stayover visitors, families, and disabled persons among others, who will be able to utilize the cable car.
“It even has the opportunity for great access to view this rare and beautiful resource that we own in Dominica,” she revealed.
And although it is a capital-intensive project, Charles-Pemberton said it will be done with minimal impact on the environment.
Presently there is a helicopter transporting materials from one station to the next.
The Zlatibor Gold Gondola in Serbia is 9km long, but it has a mid-station terminal along it’s route. The claim that this 6.6km gondola is the world’s longest is pretty weak- the lift company qualifies that statement by saying “it will be the longest single-cable ropeway in the world”.
Do these dlp fools know that the entire Roseau valley terrain is sulfuric and unstable? I wouldn’t trust my dog to walk across this timed bomb. Hope they have hefty liability insurance enough to pay to the injured people and their families.
How about some pictures of the construction DNO.
Check GIS facebook, it should come any day now
It’s a waste of time and money. In the next 3-5 years this cable will be forgotten and will be covered with vine of all sorts. What about the streets of Roseau and other crumbling infrastructure around the country? Project are only started to empress but none of these projects have ever been completed and put in use for the benefit of the public and citizens. Run your wire.
This is amongst the most ridiculous projects I’ve encountered in 45 years of international engineering.
To achieve this: “improved tourist product, more jobs, more sales of our local products, and more tourist dollars” and have impact, you must think outside the box. Legalize marijuana, tourists don’t experience that on ship, relax and watch new businesses and people spring out of it.
Too many of your people do not want to work at hotels doing beds. Antigua has already figured that out giving citizens other options, slowly getting ahead of you in agriculture with new plantations, good quality, ready to export oils, medicinal$ out of it. Wait still with this espwa malpapai talk.
We call ourselves nature island but our actions are are not aligned with nature.
Have we considered the noise pollution and displacement from a biodiversity point of view that will come about by having a cable car running in the rain forest. We are always looking to see what we can extract from nature for capital gain but what does nature get from us? Long term disruption, defradation, species extinction, and pollution. At this rate we ourselves will become extinct.
This is great news. I have never been able to visit it,first because of lack of time and now I can’t walk long distances. I hope next time I visit I will be able to go,God spares!
We lived in Dominica for six years. We visited Dominica yearly for eleven years prior to then. That leads me to make two observations:
First: Considering how long things take in Dominica, I would not hold ny breath for it to be finished when December 2025 rolls around.
Second: I am very pessimistic about how long the attraction will last. We saw a prior cable car and zip line fail. And, a cable car system requires a lot of contunuous maintenance. But Dominica tends to naintin nothing. Not the hydroelecric plant it once had. Not the trash collectino trucks it constantly seeks to relpace. Not the roads, which it doesn’t even bother building with curbs in the first place. Will there be enough business to keep it financially afloat? (How is it being funded?)
A big money laundering exercise that will kill the natural beauty of the MTPNP.
it’s going to be an unmitigated disaster. Anyone who regularly walks through the Valley of Desolation will tell you that. Charles and her fashion-conscious PS have never actually been there. They are clueless suits who know nothing of the terrain and weather conditions there.
those politicians are behaving like kids….y could the first cable was not transformed to a greater product? y can’t petit savanna road be reopened? because it was uwp? this man is a kid and need to grow up? ….which is more priority? a better port or cable cart? when sea is high can tourists come in? when the sea is high can cargo come in? which is more important? will tourists walk on water to come to island? back to front politicians ….
first find the stolen dollars from CBI

This is Dominica’s UNIQUE subway. Get on board everybody and enjoy the red line. Great job. Another tourism product for our thriving tourist industry. Who has a lot say, can toufay. This is our free and liberated Dominica. Like a good neighbour, Skerrit is there, as always.
Great job, that is what the blue unpatriotic aholes cannot stomache.UWP is hell bent on destroying everything positive in Dominica. They are all habitual criminals headed to hell, led by the blue rattlesnake pastor.
I getting Alzheimers? Didn’t we do this already? Well I hope it’s successful this time around.
Take some prevagen. It will sure keep your memory active.
My DNO Commentary from a year ago remains relevant: https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/commentary-theyve-paved-paradise-and-put-in-a-parking-lot/
Here is this twenty year old Roosevelt led administration. They can point to no single transformational project.
Some misguided supporters may point to the apartment buildings. The diehard supporters that occupy these have no documents of ownership. These people are still as dispossessed just like they were before they moved in.
The lazy, lying, lawless, laughable Cabinet of crackpots just makes fancy promises for eons. Here are a few still in the pipeline rusting and decaying: Int. airport, Geothermal energy, Rose ah revitalization, Enviable cruise village, Electrical vehicles only, Flying cable cars
Coming soon will be a staircase to Heaven. Dominicans are tired of the fairytales.
So Denise, based on what has been said, it seem like the cable car will solve the “BROKENESS” of all Dominicans? About 98% of all Dominicans are broke. Didn’t you and the other useless ministers get a salary increase of almost 30%? For doing what Denise? But you all are doing nothing Denise!
Well my friend a cable car in itself, can’t solve the woes of the tourism industry. Part of the solution should be to DISMISS Denise Charles as tourism minister. What about tourism in your constituency? What about the poor and dilapidated state of Roseau? The stench of certain parts of Roseau is so bad that i believe we may soon make international headline on many media worldwide. Both you and Skerrit are LAZY, INCOMPETENT, and wicked!
Dominicans must decide to do nothing like you all too!
Excellent work! An improved tourist product, more jobs, more sales of our local products, and more tourist dollars for Dominica.
“Excellent work!” Plastic Putin, are you trying to humour us? You CANNOT be serious!
This Minister of Tourism has presided over the most unproductive tourism ministry when compared to all independent countries in the OECS.
If Minister Charles-Pemberton’s salary were to be commensurate with her present productivity, she will be working for minimum wage.
why would anyone dislike a positive comment?or even disliked progress? It’s for the peoples benefit.
denise you sound and act like a jxxkaxx one of skerrit puppet
