Youth take charge in climate advocacy at Dominica’s inaugural Local Conference of Youth (LCOY)

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) – Dominica has announced the launch of the first-ever Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) focused on Climate Change, described as a “youth-led platform empowering young people to take an active role in shaping climate solutions.”

The group reported via press release that the event is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The day will commence with an Opening Ceremony from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by engaging activities including interactive simulations, panel discussions, and workshops. CYEN stated that these sessions aim to culminate in the creation of a National Youth Statement (NYS), which will contribute to the Global Conference of Youth (COY) and influence discussions at the Conference of the Parties (COP).

CYEN also revealed that the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) will serve as the official Title Sponsor for LCOY Dominica 2025. PISLM will provide essential support for the event and will also facilitate a key workshop on Sustainable Land Management in Agriculture and Watershed Conservation.

Participation registration is currently open, and interested individuals can register by scanning the QR code available on the event flyer.

The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) is a youth-led gathering recognized under the YOUNGO framework, the official children and youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). LCOYs are organized in over 100 countries worldwide and serve as national platforms where young people come together to enhance their capacity for climate action and advocacy.
