IN PICTURES UPDATE: Protesters for electoral reform vow to continue round the clock (with more photos)

A group of Dominicans, relentless in their campaign for electoral reform in Dominica, have vowed to continue protesting around the clock in pursuit of their demands for the cleansing of the electors list and the issuance of voter ID cards before elections can be held.

The protesters spent the entire night at the eastern junction of the junction of Independence Street and Kennedy Avenue where police barricades had been set up to prevent them access to that section of the street where the Government Headquarters and Financial Centre are located.

Below are some of the protesters taken on Friday evening.

  2. Police pressure up

I was skocked by images of Dominican police officers literally dragging their fellow citizens who were involved in a peaceful protest. Considering that these officers are underpaid and have been denied an increase time and time again, I am left to wonder what their motivation could be. Well… I have concluded that it could be only be one thing…money.
These offices, it appears have been receiving favours from the ruling DLP therefore they are now fighting to keep this party in office.
The sad thing is that I can’t even blame them. You see, these are very desperate people who are seeing their source of favours slowly going away. So. Protesters be careful and record everything.

Good day Dominica as most of you guys know I do not take prisoners therefore I will be straight to the point with my “British military training” I will be calling for the prime minister Skerrit, on till there is Snow in Hell to supply the police with water cannons, rubber bullets, Tasers guns, and finally Police stun Gun928 reasons being that so-called Workers party clowns is getting out of hands far too long these hooligans along with their diabolical nonsense leader is encouraging the people to cause mayhem in Dominica, how could the police and government allow a guy with lack of knowledge and education to behave in such a manner, it is the government duty to protect its citizens and visiting public please put a stop to that booboohaha nonsense now before it gets worse.

I could not have said this better.
I believe in the democratic process and peaceful protest, but protesting with the sole intent to cause mayhem and destabilize the country is unacceptable.
The UWP has no plans and can’t put forth their agenda to the citizens and development of Dominica and the know the only way do govern is by inciting violence.
Any patriotic Dominican can see that.

I find it ironic that the Dominica Labour Party is PROMOTING their agenda to the people of Dominica and the United Workers Party is PROTESTING theirs. Is it because the UWP has NOTHING to promote?

Only a corrupt or an uninformed person or group of persons could be against commonsensical electoral reforms. Lies and corruption buried no matter how deep or how long will rise again to the surface. All of the corruption by this unsavory government will someday land Skerrit and his rats in jail. Believe me!

As long as the protestor understand and are willing to forgo any general elections which must be held between now and end of 2020.

I say this, because any reform that includes cleansing of the voter list and I’d cards could take a minimum 2 to 3 years.

I’m not sure UWP or their supporters would be happy with that?

You are wrong! It does not take 2-3 years to clean the voters’ list and to introduce ID cards. Other Caribbean countries have done electoral reforms in less than six months. Antigua and Barbuda, for example, re-registered voters in about 3 months!

2-3 years? For what? Sometimes I wonder where we get our reasoning from. SMH

    November 17, 2019

Hats off the the Concerned Citizens Movement and the other protesters who are fighting peacefully to preserve our democracy!
My question is: Why is your number so small? I saw a massive crowd on the bayfront the other day when Lennox called a meeting, but I think I counted 20 at the protest last night. I am watching the events on Facebook. Where are the others? Are they waiting for us to come down from the US? Are they waiting for Lennox to say “let’s hit the streets?”
The election is less than 3 weeks from now. This is a peaceful protest. The police cannot harm you. Plus, the world is watching. Please people, do not be afraid. FEAR NO MORE. Those of us in the diaspora will send the money and whatever else you need. I certainly would be in the streets protesting too if I could. We are counting on you all.

  8. Skerrit must Go
    November 17, 2019

You know your government has failed big-time when you have people in their 60s and 70s trying to migrate looking for green pastures. 😒 Ah! Magwaysa! This Skerrit Family Labour Party MUST go! Change is a must this time people.

    November 16, 2019

How do the police know what time the protesters are coming to put up barricades? Are the protesters following the same pattern everyday or what?

Dca is small and there are spies embedded in every organization but you are right. People need to now organize and hit the streets at the same time in every community. A coordinated approach islandwide will yield better results. Dominica does not belong to Lennox or UWP. We are the opposition so if CCM is leading the civil disobedience efforts let us join in. We will continue the fight but we need more bodies. LADIES if you come the men will follow.

Mamo had no BALLS but she was at the forefront of protests. Annette has no BALLS and she defied three grown-As men and an entire goon squad. LADIES, LADIES, LADIES we need you to show the men 8)

Dog Biter is the BRIGHTEST supporter of Skerrit and the DLP. Imagine that! He possesses the typical characteristics of most DLP supporters. They are selfish, stubborn, subservient and burdened with an inability to understand and learn most things that contribute to personal growth. Sad but true.

Ibo you just described yourself to the dog biter – Ibo France is the BRIGHTEST supporter of LL and the UWP. Imagine that! He possesses the typical characteristics of most UWP supporters. They are selfish, stubborn, subservient and burdened with an inability to understand and learn most things that contribute to personal growth. Sad but true.” I may add that UWP Supporters rely on gossip, never have facts , are burdened with an ability (borrowed this from you) to understand anything to do with Civil Governance, are war mongers, love confusion, strife instead of peace. Have never seen some people who are just repeaters and do not think for themselves. Boastful, arrogant, wants to spit words in your mouth. Think they are the only one existing. Know it all (yet knows nothing at all), with no common sense, High on , mental hatred slavery, Does not love God farless for themselves & others. Cannot give a counter proposal. Angry mobsters. Disastisfied with themselves. Ibo France…
