As we all celebrate (with social distancing!) the 42nd Anniversary of our Independence, we reflect on what makes Dominica truly the Nature Isle.
Our country’s spectacular mountains rise majestically out of the Caribbean Sea climbing close to 5000 feet as they disappear into the clouds. As such, Dominica stands tall among her sisters in the Caribbean.
First time visitors often find themselves in awe of the variety of natural beauty both on land and in the sea around the island. Lush vegetation grows in abundance on the mountainsides (the green “velvet” look that everywhere abounds) while the rainforests are considered among the last true island rainforests in the world. Birds and animals mirror the diversity of flora to provide striking colours and sounds in equal measure.
In Dominica, you do not generally find obtrusive concrete resorts. It is predominantly natural wood construction that everywhere abounds. Although all are currently undergoing “stress” from the impact of the pandemic, The Nature Isle boasts a variety of contemporary hotels, cosy guesthouses and restful wilderness retreats. Some inns and lodges are cradled in the mountains where the air is as clear as it can be and only nature can challenge the peace and quiet.
The noise of rushing water from numerous waterfalls dotted around the island is often the only disturbance to the natural tranquility of Dominica. The waters around the island act as a refuge for those who like to absorb their spectacular sights in total silence, broken only by a passing dolphin or a school of whales.
Whether visiting “the Homeland” yet again, or for the first time ever, Dominica is without doubt a very special place, especially if your idea of relaxing is to move at nature’s own pace or to hike the heart of a natural paradise. Making it even more memorable are its culture and its people.
Dominica is without doubt the unheralded Nature Isle of the Caribbean, nay, the world, – and therefore an ideal destination for those who appreciate the finer things that nature has to offer. Despite COVID, this still remains true! Our D-ECO Association encourages you to visit!

It’s undeniable, Dominica is the most naturally beautiful and attractive island in the Caribbean. The majestic terrain, rare flora and fauna, hundreds of rivers, sparkling seas, fertile soil, abundance of sunshine, unpolluted air and the list goes on.
These natural attributes should have redounded to the benefit of all residents.

The problem that is bedeviling the country is the underwhelming leader who presently occupies the office of prime minister due to a severely corrupt electoral system. Dominica has fallen well short of realizing its potential.
This 42nd year of political independence there is nothing to smile about.
